I normally have a Blue Box in the glove box. Carrying TORX are just handy.
FWIW I have never gotten so much gunk in my knife that a soapy water bath couldn't handle with ease.

Just curious why everyone wants so many models in H1? Is it mainly just because of it's lack of corrosion?
I ordered a Salt 1 for myself and a friend had me order him one as well. I haven't been all that impressed with the edge holding and he won't even use it anymore. In fact he gave it to me because it will get dull so quickly and he builds and repairs boats and said he didn't have time to mess with it all the time trying to keep it sharp.
It will get pretty sharp but just doesn't seem to hold it. Now ZDP on the other hand is very impressive. Just wondering why all the hype and lust?
If you take the time to clean your knife at the end of the day most stainless doesn't have a problem with staining, even in saltwater.
Not trying to stir the pot, just wondering.
Very good toughness as well as rustproof. It's edge holding is in the neighborhood of AUS-8/10 so it's not terrible. Pretty decent actually.
Waved Civilian with a Titanium framelock and CB G-10 scales.
I have a mini grip in 440C which is supposed to be close to AUS10 and the grip seems to hold an edge much better. What are the chances of getting a couple of knives from a batch with a bad heat treat?
I wouldn't think the odds would be very high. Maybe I will put a file to it and see if it bites in or skates over it.
It will probably bite. H1 knives are differentially heat treated because they work harden. The spine is about low 50's and the edge is 58-59 from what we've seen in testing.
Sharpen it up a couple of times and see if you notice a difference.
Interesting. I wonder how they do the differential heat treat? The only ways I am aware of are with clay and with a torch. Wasn't aware a production knife used this type of heat treat.
I use paper wheels so maybe they aren't doing much work hardening and the repetitive use of stones would harden the edge up some?
H1 isn't hardened with heat. Grinding it work hardens the steel, making the edge hard while keeping the spine soft.
Not partial to screw construction myself, regardless of head style. I wish they'd build more models like the Persians and Kiwis, with flush pins, bolsters, and scales.![]()
