I would really like a compression lock Military and Civilian, would anyone else?

I am sorry, I think you have misunderstood me. I was not saying that I "just don't like" the liner lock. I was expressing my personal, and admittedly slight, trepidation towards them, as they are the only type to have ever failed on ME. So, I have an association. You can have an association, know it isn't right or logical, but still have that association, and even work against it. Every time I use my RAT1 it works against that sentiment. Gots to fight your own internal prejudice.

That, and it seems you missed my last sentence altogether, "I have to assume Spyderco executes this lock in a much better fashion, especially if touted for heavier use. I'd make an exception for the Millie, but I wanna wait for an interesting steel, at the least", I'm gonna trust Spyderco to excecute the liner-lock without failing, otherwise I wouldn't want a Military, would not own and have complimented the RAT series. Mane, I even still hazard to keep a 6" stiletto with a liner lock. I am not throwing any personal distrust at Spyderco or their locks, in fact I am throwing my full vote of confidence at 'em. 😀
I was actually responding to oldmanwilly more than you. 😉

Don’t need additional fidget factor in the Military. It’s great as is. In fact, if done as in the PM2, I’d hate the Miltary to have a similar hotspot in hard use. Now a couple of new CQI’ed versions, in Z-wear, Magnacut, 3V, maybe a re-edition of the fluted Ti knife, etc., would be great.

And the Civilian ? It’s built for single use. Why does the lock matter ?

Magnacut at a high Rc hardness in the fluted Ti framelock frame would be . . . hard to resist.

Admittedly, I'm in love with the compression lock, as much as I like the backlock on my Endura and Matriarch 2, as much as you can still easily open these with one hand, the compression lock is just amazing. I originally thought the Military was a comp lock after finding it sold out and buying my first Spyderco back in December, an S45VN PM2 (Got eight more Spydies since, wow is this a habit... Thank God I'm not a watch guy) and the same thing happened when I bought a Matriarch 2, I thought the Civilian was a comp lock and found different. In regard to the Millie, while I've admittedly never handled a Walkerlock Spyderco, and I don't doubt their quality...I just love the comp lock.

I will still end up picking up whatever the new Military is, though. Would folks still rec it to somebody who loves the PM2 and has a couple? Is the tip durable enough? I've heard a lot, "You will understand once you get it", which is a concept I get. I enjoy large EDCs, so the Military seems like it would be nice. The PM2 is great but I like a lot of cutting area, and the PM2 is equal to an Opinel 8 in cutting area. Still, would love to see that and the Civvie comp-locked.
You are going to get your wish on the Military. The upcoming Military 2 is a compression lock knife.

Awesome! Some peeps told me that one existed, but I just looked it up and read a Spyderco thread about it after reading your comment. Glad to see they will be keeping both locks around! Excited for this, though, thank you for letting me know.
Interested in powerlock, too.

Just call it differently, how about the "Ninja Military", will fit well with the Para Military.

Now, what about the Civilian. What do you do with it, and why a compression lock ?
Oh hey, I was thinking about this question, and I actually saw that a "Civilian 2" has been in the works for a loooooong time on Spyderco forums per Sal's word, which MIGHT have a comp lock! Reason I reply to you is, you ask, why? And I said, "Cause I like it a lot", basically. I thought of an actual "Tactical" reason why it may want to be on the Civ: silent opening. That might be useful some places, especially if marketed to LEOs and undercovers.

I'd actually like to see the Manix XL with a compression lock and tip down carry positions. That'd be like my perfect folder... oh yeah and do it in 4V, 10V, or dare I hope... 3V.

That would be nice. I absolutely would buy a Spyderco ball-lock before I buy an axis-lock knife, but the comp lock seems more secure, and with the Yojumbo, I can say that I definitely like it in larger-bladed knives. I would like it if Spyderco did more XL's.

Sal Glesser Sal Glesser I was reading 2015 comments that you wrote on the creation of the Civilian 2, how you've been wanting to do it for a few years. Lots of great ideas thrown around. I know that a lot of stuff has been very delayed, and that this is not first, second, or even third priority, but I know it is on your list. Any news at all on this knife, my good sir?

Thanx much!

My military is my favorite spyderco ever. The liner lock is prob the best example of one I've ever had on a knife. That being said the compression lock on a military is a no brainer and would improve an already near perfect design. I love the design of the pm2, it's just a tad small for me. The compression lock military would solve that for me.

Hey, everybody? My wishes are solved, I think, or will be at least. All of them.

There is going to be a Millie 2 on a comp lock. There is going to be a Civvie 2, no idea what locking mechanism or whether it'll be waved, but if it isn't on a comp-lock, there is a reverse-S PM2 in the works, that is as good as a comp-lock Civvie plus it's more utilitarian (just bought a Cricket and Lil Matriarch for the utility) and the PM2 is my favorite pattern from Spyderco so far.

So... I get everything I want, and more, and the originals. Thank you Spyderco, thank you Sal. 🕷💘

I’d have a Millie if it came with the comp. Lock. I won’t buy anything with a liner lock, regardless of how well made.

I can understand that. I trust Spyderco enough to do it, and I use RATs, so... but it isn't my favorite either and I LOVE the Comp lock.
So, just wait a little while then, for the Military 2. It is coming, and it is confirmed to have a compression lock. I love large comp lock knives. I have the Yojumbo, which is 4" and it's great.

I just saw Knifecenter's Instagram post announcing the Military with a compression lock and I'm just giddy. Now, how long until we see a run in REX 45..😁

Thanks Sal, it looks great!

A compression lock Millie with a 4-way clip, never thought I'd see the day. If I can get some aftermarket scales for it, I'd love to pick one of those up when they're released.

The liner lock was solid (I never owned any frame lock Millies), but it should be awesome with the comp lock.

I guess I’m in the minority here. I thought the military was perfect the way it was. This one kinda caught me by surprise. I’d rather have seen a liner or backlock pm2 or para 3 before I’d ever imagine a compression military. Kinda defeats the purpose of “glove access”, which was the big appeal for the military.

I have developed my love for a backlock since this thread was started, but I'm psyched for this! Definitely trying one ASAP. I love the comp lock day to day, I live in CA.

Do you like the Stretch/Stretch XL knives? I kind of have looked at those as about as good as a "backlock PM2/Military".

Yes the stretch straight spine is basically a backlock frn pm2. Great knives, especially in k390.

Finally, Spyderco fixed the Military. I cannot wait to buy it.

Serious question: It seems like people that don't like compression locks are all on the older side. Is it that manipulating a compression lock with the wear and tear of age is more difficult than I expect it to be, or is it just that old people are comfortable in what they know and don't particularly care for changes to what they already know and love?
