Iconic Benchmade

That is an Ares not a Stryker.

Of course you're correct. Teach me to work all day with an Ares in my pocket and not a Stryker and not know the difference. ;)

And greetings to a friend in Berkeley - where I grew up!

Funny twist, I am originally from LI New York, but my Brother and family now live in Virginia Beach!
Wish I could get my hands on an Ares, one day...
Cheers!

Same here. I have the 800 and 812, owned a couple of 970 variants (just give me a PE bead blasted 970 and I'll be happy.) Old school models are always worth seeking out!

I have a Mini 555 Griptilian i154CM (light blue grips) and the Griptilian S30V (Orange) and love them. Light and slim for my pocket .... And the color lets me find it when I'm field dressing a deer in late evening or trying to find my folder on my desk among all the paperwork!
I lost too many black / camo color knives in the bush ... and if the animal spots me because of my knife and gets away before I can shoot it - it deserves to live!

There is only one, the original AFCK...

You can tell old school from new.. nothing axis is truly iconic.. unless you are new to Benchmade products.

940 and grip are new school. And I can't stand the 940.. don't get why so many like it... 710 over 940 easy. ;]

I'll defend the honor of the ICONIC 940. The one and only drawback of the 940 is the aluminum handle. The design and execution of it are top notch.
I've carried everything from leatherman micras to my LFK. Something to be said about a knife without a recurve for many people as well.

I'd also like to point out that knives don't have to be antiques to be iconic, if age were any determinate then we'd be talking about fixed blades and bali-songs.

The Grip is definitely Iconic for average buyers, the 710 for Axis lovers, the 610/630 for large folder nuts, the 940 for slim carry nuts and my personal long time favorite 720, for being the father of the grip, available in aluminum and G-10.

Military members, the 3550, AFO and auto stryker are iconic.:cool:

Hands down, no question for me.

AFCK 800 or 812 (depending on size preference)

I think this is the the smoothest, fastest opening, and best knife i've ever carried. I love these guys, i have like 10 of them.

Course, they're hard to find. Benchmade...make some more!!!

Another vote for the AFCK. Been carrying an 800 partial serated ATS34 blade model daily for more than 17 years and it had held up remarkably. One of the handle medallions fell out after a trip through the dryer a few years ago. Other than that, it is still in very good shape and remarkably solid and tight for how much it has been used. Also have a CQ7 975 which is even more stout, but just doesn't call to me. I remember that cover to the benchmade catalogue from when I bought these knives…

Maybe we need to start a "Bring back the Production 800/812" thread :)

Before the 710, it was the TSEK/AFCK that gave Benchmade bragging rights as the iconic knife to own.......so I'm with Sloth "There is only one, the original AFCK...

You can tell old school from new.. nothing axis is truly iconic.. unless you are new to Benchmade products".

And a few Old School...... Brend, Pinnacle and Crawford

I'm going with the Griptilian because I think it's in the sweet spot of size and ability.

That said- this thread makes me want an AFCK bad!
