Iconic Benchmade

For the military every soldier who hears benchmade that I know think the old 9050 AFO and the model right after that because many soldiers were issued them. That would be my vote.

Hard for me to say, they have so many. It would be something with the axis lock. I'd say a Benchmade 940

I cheated on the handles, but these are my 2 favorites:

BTW, thanks for the new clips, Benchmade!

Can't have a Benchmade collection without a balisong, considering that's where it all began for them.
This is exactly right as noted by at least three members here. Why do we suppose they use a Butterfly as their logo? ;)

My vote, in no particular order would be the Griptilian, 940 Osborne and the AFO

I'm going to have to say the Griptilian. I'm new with Benchmades and I recently bought a 940. Some of the guys at work knew I got a new Benchmade and it wasn't "show me your Benchmade or show me your 940........It was "hey John, show so and so that new Griptilian you picked up."

I find many think this because they hear benchmade and go to buy one realize they are an investment and want the cheapest one, that or most stores that only carry 5-10 models have at least 4 different Grips/mini grips so that's all they know. I didn't even know about the griptillian model till this past Christmas and I've had a benchmade for over 15 years, I needed an inexpensive knife to carry while I sent in my 9050 to get sharpened, only because it had a chip in the blade. But you are right many are seeing the grip as the flagship due to it's price and availability.

If you really mean iconic, as opposed to any individual's favorite, I think it would probably be the Griptilian, followed closely by the 710. The 80x variants don't really qualify as iconic (though I wish they did) because they haven't been made as regular production knives for many years now.

It would have to be the Bali-Song.

Their logo is a butterfly--what else needs to be said??

I think these days Benchmade is better known for the Axis lock rather than the Bali. So THAT needs to be said.

I agree with the others that it would definitely be the 710. Or possibly the Griptilian.

710, AFCK, 940, etc.
There are many that can be called Iconic.
This is testimony to the Company.

When I think Benchmade, my immediate thought is a mini Griptilian.

I think it will be a hard choice though if your looking for the "buck 110 of benchmades"....

I think the three knives to choose from are:

Mini grip
940
710

I listed them in order of size.

If you like smaller-midsize knives the 940 and grip are definitely the way to go....If you want a larger folder then the 710 is your option.

710 the first axis!

The 710 and Griptilian. Model 42 is definitely historic, but not really "iconic." It would be more equivalent to something like the 119 for Buck than the 110.
