I was going to buy my 2nd Sebenza 21 but not with this mess stamped on it. A silly way of protecting from fakes IMHO. Inside the handle I suppose would be an option, but with eBay buyer protection, who's going to buy a "perfect knock-off" then really believe it's a Sebenza once it's received and cycled a few times. Not me anyway and I'm relatively new to CRK.

This is a very bad move but I am known for overstating things and I certanly am not going to "be happy" about it or purchase a Sebenza or any CRK with that stamped on it. A flashlight and a keen eye could easily spot a much smaller lettering inside the handle.

I mean fro cripe sake what are you thinking about? Let's paint MADE IN DETROIT on Cadillacs. :(

I ordered a wood inlay Sebenza from a dealer and I hope it's not on it.
I guess I can live with it if it is. But, given my choice I'd say without is what I'd prefer.

For those of you that like it.

Why?

Surely it doesn't mean as much to you as it does to the man himself...

I'm indifferent to the stamp. As result, I'll buy more CRKs regardless. I don't personally care for the 21 version over the Regular version, but I've purchased two Sebs(TNK tanto and Small Insingo) since the Regular has been discontinued. At the end of the day, the positives still far outnumber the negatives when I consider a CRK folder. Couple that with the fact Mr. Reeve took time out of his work day to call me and talk at length about a particular issue I had with an Umnumzaan some time ago. That left me with a glimpse of the true sense of pride he takes in products and his commitment to his customers:thumbup:

Hopefully Mr. Reeves will find a less obtrusive solution - or not? :)

I wonder where it was made & by who? Oh yeah that's a real Sebenza thanks!

Is this a real Hudson Hornet? It might be a faker!

Is this a real State Trooper or a fake? Yup a fake and I almost bought that cardboard sign.

You have made your point again and again, and now you're turning this thread into a circus. You sure are overstating it. This thread was set up for serious statements because too many posts in the first two threads were bordering on trolling.

Enough already.

Thanks, Esav. Guys can make their opinions without being #$%holes.

After seeing the pic's of the idaho made on the Seb I can say that I am not a fan of it, but on the Star-benza that I am interested in it's subtle enough for me not to care.

I'm still at the stage where I'm dreaming of getting my first sebenza. I can't afford it yet, but one day........!

I would honestly be disappointed when that day comes if I could only purchase a seb with that engraving on it. To me the seb's beauty is in its clean simple lines. Something bold like that ruins it too much.

does anyone have a reasonably high-res pic of a Sebenza that I could use to photoshop my idea for an alternative "USA Made/Idaho made" branding. Unfortunately I don't have any Sebenzas to take a pic of on my own, and I don't want to use someone's picture without their permission (I'll be sure to mark the picture appropriately so there's no confusion that it's a photoshop). I'm hoping to keep it on the lock-bar side, but I'll happily take a high-res pic of either side of the knife.

Please excuse me for being so long winded. This is partly in response to the two posts made by Mr. Reeve but really is mostly just an expression of my feelings towards the whole matter and I welcome anyone's response. Good, bad or indifferent.

I have been considering one of his CRK Sebenzas as of late. I even started the thread inquiring as to whether I could purchase one with a graphic of my choosing. That was before I saw this thread and became aware of the brand that these knives are now sporting.

This is just my opinion but as I am not coming into it with the zeal of a die hard fan or the disdain of a disgruntled detractor, I suspect my opinion may fall right in line with many other prospective customers who have the means and are curious to see if the product lives up to the hype.

Initially I was really turned off by Mr. Reeve's first post. To me it had the air of a "Let them eat cake" sort of attitude. Let me make it perfectly clear that I am not saying that this was the case. I have never met the man nor do I know anything about him. I am merely stating that that is the way his post came off sounding to me: arrogant; and it left a bad taste in my mouth.

The second post did much to alleviate that. It is much more in line with the image that I would want to portray if I were the CEO of a business that caters to such a narrow and sophisticated fan base.

The bottom line is that obviously there is a problem with this style of branding. The majority of your consumers don't like it. As has been stated ad nauseam, it is not so much the branding itself as the location/positioning, choice of wording and/or style of font that is the problem. It seems to me that a company that chooses to ignore its customer base when they are so glaringly and loudly telling it what they want could very quickly find itself coming up short.

Personally, I love to see a "Made in the USA" type of brand on anything I purchase just as long as it's done in a tasteful manner. I think you guys have some work to do in that regard. Somehow "Idaho Made" in big bold letters just doesn't cut it for me.

Not to be argumentative but to the person that said looks meant nothing to him and that only function mattered, I couldn't disagree with you more (albeit respectfully). I ask you this: Do you pick out your clothing when you go shopping or do you just walk past a rack and grab the first thing that fits? Why?

Man has been embellishing useful items since the beginning of time. We have the innate ability to appreciate aesthetics; it's one of the things that set us apart from mere animals.

I'm sure this was already asked/answered, but when did the Idaho stamping start? Is it all Sebenzas made starting in October? Thanks.

Well I ordered a Lg. Insingo today. I called knifeart first to confirm that it does not have the "Idaho" stamp. Apparently none of the Insingo's have it to date.

I received my new 2010 Annual LE today with spalted maple, Double thumb studs, & upper Swedge grind & to be honest Idaho Made didn't even bother me. Its the smoothest opening sebenza I have had in 15 years of collecting them.
This is only my second annual, But hopefully there will be many more to come.

I got mine today as well and completely agree.

At first I was completely against the stamp, until I got one. If anything just flip the wording around so you can read it properly when the knife is turned over.

I think it would look great on the exposed part of the lockbar.

RICKSTER we need some pics of that swedge.:D

Travis,
I'll try & get some pictures of the Ivory & Damascus annual & the spalted maple one together.

Its indifferent to me whether its on their or not. I voted that I like it !!! I have learned over the years not to question Chris and the way he goes about his Very Successful Business..............And for people to say they will not buy more CRK because its on there, get real guys.............That Just Means More For Me. In these tough economic times, people should be glad mfg. is still in the USA and not in China...........Chris knows what he is doing, TRUST ME !!!

Very well said.

Half the people who have voted here will not buy a knife with the engraving on it. I know that the voters do not represent the views of all clientele, but if we consider some simple economics here and look at supply and demand, it's clear that demand is going to go down if Chris Reeve continues to place the engraving on his knives, which means that price may have to go down in order to reach equilibrium. Hey, if the price goes down, I would be OK with that and I would consider buying a knife with the engraving on it.
