I have been following this thread for a while. I just received recently a drop dead beautiful large left hand spalted maple LE 2010 and it has the Idaho Made on it anodyzed gold. And you know what I think? I like the naked look but for the fact that Chris cares enough to include me in his family even though it may not be easy for him, I say and to any one shallow enough to not buy his products due to this Idaho Made stuff, try to find a better folder made by a hard working decent man and his company. The only folder I will carry besides a CRK is my leatherman micra because its a small multi tool. I will continue to be his loyal customer. I don't consider myself to be a CRK fanboy. Chris and his company take care of what I like and for that they can consider me loyal customer and if he thinks its important to add engraving on his knive then god bless him and the wonderful company he and his wife anne have dedicated their lives to. Thank you all, rant mode is now off!

How did you get to be part of his family? Marriage or something?

LOL not family in the true sense of the word but family in the sense of being a long time customer. A lot of us here feel like family but not blood or marraige relationship.:eek::D

And the reason I feel he includes me is because he has always been willing to make dedicated left hand folders and I can't think of any production knife company that will do that and that really makes me feel special. I also feel that any time I call CRK it would not be any trouble to talk to Chris or Anne personally but they probably get tired of hearing how much I like their products.

Scott Dog,

I've been following this thread also. BFC is a different place these days.

Rant mode appreciated, Amigo. Having been tempted by others' fruits of late (XM-18's, Strider PT's), deep down there is a feeling that turning my back on close to 10 years of edc and dedication to a near-perfect product would be a mistake of epic proportion.

Not that there is anything inherently wrong with the aforementioned knives that beckon me, I just know and trust what I've carried and used extensively. And I mean used extensively. My first small regular Seb, born in '02, has been in my 10-year-old Son's hands for the better part of a year now, and it is more than still going strong. I sharpened the snot out of that knife to the extent that the blade was considerably smaller and shorter compared to the newer small regular that I carry now, but it still locks up at around 60% and takes whatever my Son can throw at it. He also shoots a Walther P22 like nobody's business, but that's a different matter.

CRK as the proverbial and deserving bar that many production knives are measured has of course turned the spotlight back on itself. Any changes, great or small, are going to be under the microscope.

That said, and this may be the point of my post honestly, if I did not already own several Seb's, I would not hesitate to buy a new one with the new logo. The logo was obviously born out of pride, but that aside, given the choices in production and custom folders and the associated costs (the Seb seemingly a bargain these days in some cases given that it is a production folder that rivals and exceeds many custom folders), I'd learn to live with the logo born of pride to have one of the absolute finest folding knives that money can buy.

Just my .02, and I may owe everyone a cent or two.

Professor.

I think we need to keep things in perspective. Personally I don't like the blue thumbstud either. ;)

To me, it ruins the classic look.
Much like drawing an ink mustache on the Mona Lisa.

Honestly, I do not like the placement of the Idaho Made logo. IMHO it would be great inside the scale to keep the lines clean. Would I buy one with the logo? Sure but I would prefer one with a discreet logo placement.

Now, like Scott Dog, I carry a lefty blade. Chris Reeves is one of the few major knife makers that actually looks out for the left handed market. Strider doesn't currently make one and Rick Hinderer doesn't make one either. So for that Im grateful and wouldn't hesitate in buying one.

I totally understand how you get that feeling but while you state you're not a fanboy, you drink the kool-aid (( edit out profanity )) ? You're not family, just a customer you know? Just like me. You get your lefty version, I get my stamp free version and we're good :D

Aesthetics have SO MUCH to do with knife purchases, and to each their own. To some, the stamp ruins the aesthetics, to others, it doesn't. So it's not terribly fair to piss on people who chose to buy elsewhere because of it.

Points well taken Mr Clean and yes aesthtics are important when you spend that kind of money on a knife. I was mostly blowing off steam. To each his own and if one chooses not to buy a seb because of the stamp that is of course their business and IMHO their loss. I posted in anger and in hind site I over did it. The mods censured me for profanity. Like they say stuff happens, I over reacted and that's about it. But IMO for god's sake it's a knife not a car or a house or something you wear. But I do feel like more than just a customer. I mean how many production knife companies can you call and talk to the owner? Oh well life will go on and I won't lose any sleep over this issue.:thumbup:;)

And no I don't drink the kool aid I'm not a stupid blind follower of CRK. The only other way I have to get a good quality left hand frame lock is custom and that hasn't always worked well for me.

With such a strong fan base of CRK wares, I'm somewhat surprised so many would refuse to purchase CRK wares with the "Idaho Made" engraving/stamping. To each their own.

By my calculations, if those refusing to purchase one knife in the future, at $330 (dealer price of a small, plain), CRK stands to lose roughly $55,000+. Interesting, to say the least.

Personally, if the "Idaho Made" engraving/stamping would disappear, I'd be happy. As others have commented, the aesthetics of a plain scale is much more appealing to me.

Not quite sure if I could stop purchasing CRK wares over this issue though. They make a dayum nice knife and the "Idaho Made" doesn't hinder performance. :D

Does anyone know if the "Idaho Made" engraving/stamping hinders the High Speed / Low Drag ratio. :p

I hear ya Scott.

Ever try RJ Martin? So far out everyone I've tried, he's probably the most on par with CRK. And he makes lefties, and S110V...and... :D

hmmm... I might have to do a youtube review about the pros and cons of the engraving on the sebenza, comparing the ergos, cutting performance etc..maybe a 4-parter :D

RJ Martin makes a damn fine knife and I would say his level of fit and finish exceeds those of production companies. His knives also don't say "Idaho Made" sometimes.

But they do come with flippers and recurves.

Everyone has their thing, and personally I'm thinking I should get one of these Idaho Made Sebenzas. All the chatter, don't I owe it to myself to see what all the fuss is about first hand in person?

How many people denounced the Umnumzaan when pictures of it were first released? Grooves! Ugly! Glass breaker tang???? No no no!

And now it's one of the most popular knives. Tells you a little something doesn't it?
