Idaho Made?

I really don't care one way or the other as long as they don't start stamping NY on them and then who knows how many they will sell.!* lol

I'd rather it not have it vs having it but it wouldn't stop me from buying a Sebenza. As long as they don't start putting sometime stupid like "before using knife, read safety and operating manual" on the side of them! Lol !

Boy it was an issue to me until I bought a couple and realized I didn't even notice it. :D

You must be kidding. :( Real life has no meaning. Only the internet is real. Only forum posts have any meaning. :p

I believe they already have to put in a card letting you know the knife is sharp. Can operating instructions and a warning not to stick it in your eye be far off.

Personally, I'd call that improvement of the species as a whole. I wonder if we could somehow get "too stupid to live" tossed into the procedures for defending a company from a law suit after someone manages to be an utter screwup and hurt themselves, then sues...

I've been telling people that for a long time. Glad to have someone already onboard. :D

But at least, unlike some manufacturers (for example, Ruger), they don't have the whole "billboard" engraved prominently on the side of the tool.

For the new users a quick summary:

You can't buy a new Chris Reeve Knives knife without it.
I've asked personally and the answer was 100% no.
Factory swapping a blade from a compromised scale to a clean scale was 100% no as well.

The overwhelming majority of clients dislike it, a decent percentage actively hate it.

It has been reported that Chris Reeve Knives has said it is here to stay for some undisclosed secret reason.

It has been reported that it is a touchy subject with Chris Reeve Knives and even with the man himself.

It's a bit of a taboo subject as negative comments of any sort are frowned upon on the forum because I guess it's bad to bite the hand that feeds you.

You have a great future in fiction writing. ;)

You realize we're the hand doing the feeding right? Not the other way around.

Honestly, it's the blade that matters here. I just snagged my first, actually, a Large Sebenza (photos once it shows up!). I didn't even bother asking.

I chose a CRK knife for it's build quality, fine materials, and domestic manufacture. I really couldn't give a **** if they've got the location of build engraved on it or not.

Of course, a knife is a bit of a personal expression as well as a tool, so that's definitely subject to a large grain of salt. :D

There is no undisclosed secret reason. Mr Reeves posted exactly why it is there and why it will remain on the knives.

That's right. In his own words...

I apologize if I offended anyone – that was not my intent.

Chris Reeve Knives is, and always has been, a different company. When I introduced the Sebenza in 1988 while we were still in South Africa, I was told by some people that the mechanism was great but the knife was ugly. But it broke new ground; we have won many awards because it grew on people and more and more people liked it.

I am the one who is responsible for the wording and the placement. I did it to be different and to be noticeable because (1) I am proud that our knives are made, not only in the United States but in the beautiful State of Idaho and (2) we are one of the few knife companies left that are completely USA made, and with US materials.

We have produced a couple hundred handles in various models that need to be assembled and sold. Suggestions of where “Idaho Made” should be positioned will be considered. It is important that this should be engraved to safeguard the integrity of your knives going forward. There are many Chinese knockoffs, the quality of which is improving all the time.

We appreciate your interest in our knives but you must realize that we are human too!

Chris

My Dozier K1 is marked 'Arkansas Made' on the blade:D. I don't mind 'Idaho Made' at all. Both Dozier and Reeves are superb knife makers and designers and that's what counts for me.

I like potatoes and I like Sebenzas; ergo, I like Idaho.
(But the thing I like the most is that I was able to use "ergo" in one of my post) :D

Thanks for bringing up Mr. Reeve's original post again. Always worth a read and a re-read. He makes a solid argument. Like I said, he has every right and reason to put it there.

Also thanks for pointing out that Bob Dozier goes with "Arkansas Made". It somehow lessens the pain.

I am getting more and more confident that it will grow on me.
