Idaho Made?

At one time I owned both a Small 21 and Umnumzaan prior to the Idaho Made stamp. I sold them off and regretted it shortly after.

Recently (mid this year) I was able to find another Small 21. This one has the stamp but I hardly noticed it at first.

Chris has posted his reasons in this forum (which were reposted in this thread). The stamp is something that Chris is proud of. But it is not the stamp alone, but what it stands for. While we may not fully understand the exact reason this means so much to Chris ( we haven't walked in his shoes), and some even disagree with it, there is more to it than just the two words. Each knife now carries with it a story, meaning and history. And I feel honored to hold a part of it.

You would understand if you spent time traveling in Idaho... :-)

2. Bring back the regular (yup, I went there)... And by fans I just mean me. :)

The only two folders I have right now by CRK is a large regular and my Mnandi. I always liked the regular for the sole reason that it didn't have the Classic wording carved on it like the other Sebenzas. At some point if enough people don't like where the wording is, I would think Chris would break down and move or drop it. He's in the business of making and selling knives and I'm in the hobby of buying them. Hopefully we can meet in the middle. If the idea is to crack down on counterfeits, than I think it would be even better to have the wording on the inside of the liners since it would be an unobvious way to see if a knife was a copy, etc. Personally, the only think you need to do to see if a knife is a fake is look at the blade, Chris has the best tumbled/stone washed blades I've ever seen, that's why I love Chris Reeve Knives.

I know I really shouldn't comment on this topic again, but how does it cut down on piracy?

The pirated knives that I've seen (for example on Deal Extreme etc.) have all the markings copied from the originals.
Even stuff like the steel ratings on the blade.

Anti-piracy markings are usually thinks that are difficult or expensive to produce e.g. hologram stickers, micro-printing, weird stocks etc.

I've only had mine for a few months and the stamp was not an issue in deciding whether or not to buy.
Personally, I don't care what he puts on any knife he makes if the quality is the same as the one I carry.
Akin to the nameplates on your vehicle, if you don't like it remove it. I am just waiting to see someone out there grind off the stamping with a dremel.
Any takers?

The one genius who brings back up a almost year old thread.... I'll state my opinion then. Functionally, does not hurt the knife, asthetically, it takes from the clean lines of the knife. None of mine will have it. I respect it, just don't like the looks.

I received a Seb 21 yesterday, sure it has Idaho Made on it,I'm not put off by it what so ever. Not quite sure why the dislike of IM, If it had USA made on it,would that make more folks happy?
Idaho, just happens to be where its made, in the USA. Which works for this Canuck :p:D

So, it's the state.... not 'I da ho made'? See, you can always learn something new!

Seriously, they already had CR's logo... then they added 'IDAHO MADE'... what were they thinking??? I like my StarTac 'zaan and plain small Sebbie enough to overlook all of that writing, but, it begs the question, what's next? Hmmm, the blade metal written on the blade? Good grief!

Well ok then, how bout made in "Sweet Home Alabama" then? :p

I prefer them without any markings other than the CRK logo. I love the minimalist, no frills or adornment quality of the plain Sebenzas. However, I do have a small Seb with the Idaho Made engraving and it's really not a big deal.

I like the stamp.

It's OK by me if the workers and owners want to show pride in their community and tell the world, that their quality comes from not just the factory, but the community that supports it.

In the Japanese cutlery tradition, "Seki City" means quality, in the german tradition, "Soligen" means quality, for the English it's "Sheffield", for Spain "Toledo". Why not Idaho? Anyway, it's just a friggin knife :)

Tell you what: I like it too.

Infact my large Insingo looks a little naked without the stamp. (I'll keep that.)
My newest aquisition has the stamp; I think it looks cool.
I have to admit, I had to get used to it.

I am cool with the stamp. I would like to see blade stamps also. I am sure blade etchings would not be welcomed either though.
