Ideas for odd/unconventional folders?

It's a bit too expensive, but I've always (for not good reason that I can ascertain) wanted one of these oddball Ratworx MRX series automatic knives with the "chain drive" feature:

Kershaw Speedbump

EDIT: I actually own one of these.

I own a Ratworkx. The chain drive is definitely unique and it's a cool peace. Pricey but cool.

Speed bump is one of the most comfortable in the hand folders I own. I have several because there just great to use.

In all seriousness, AG Russell's "Funny Folder" is an outside the box knife from a respected source.

But it's a clone. I have an old promo knife from when my dad worked in the steel mills, it is probably 50 years old and uses that same opening design.

The Buck Marksman has been calling to me lately. It seems like a unique flipper. It’s certainly unique for a Buck. It’s right in your price range, too. The Strong Lock System reminds me of my beloved ring lock knives.

In that time frame, any patents on the mechanism have long since passed.
That being the case, it wouldn't be off of most folks list.

Adding to that, just because it uses the same mechanism, doesn't make it a "clone".
Three years ago, if you stuck an Axis lock on a new design, it didn't make it a "clone" of a Benchmade. It just used a patented lock mechanism.

I say three years ago, due to the Axis Lock no longer being protected by patent.

Looking to buy some folders, prefarably flippers, that’t ”outside the box”.
To spice things up.

I was going to buy the QRTMSTR Biff Tannen (love the beefy, futuristic, industrial look... and the wharncliffe blade) - but thanks to you guys over here at bladeforums I found out that the company seems to be... shifty.

Also love the Ontario Carter Prime with the industrial-looking sheepsfoot.

So.. help me out. What other folders is there on the market that sticks out design-wise.

Budget: circa 100-150$.

I like the CRKT Eros. Nice Ken Onion design, premium, non standard steel, Ti framelock and great execution. Suitable as a shiv or sewing tool. The only one of his CRKT knives his Mom kept for herself after he showed it to her.

It's not a clone. The patent is long expired and many companies have made them over the years.

Or a picklock. The Marksman is good. I have one.

YES, definitely, and when you see it in action its allure justifies its price. Oh who am I kidding, it's an automatic, and a good one at that

CRKT Fulcrum 2 is quite fun with almost passable steel. You have to sort of slide the scales apart then snap it back together.

Ya, got one of those myself last year. Bought it solely for the unique opening mechanism. I keep it in the collection purely for the high Oddball coefficient. Most of the entertainment value is by handing it over to a buddy and ask "can you figure out how to open this?"
To date none of my buds have been able to do it.

I also have one of these. Couldn't resist...
1. Because it is a rough rider so there is very little cash outlay.
2. It is so unique. You could probably stab a house fly through a screen door and not leave a hole.
3. I just had to find out what the blade play would be for something like this. lol Clearly this is not a knife you are going to be prying anything at all.

Or if you’re a seriously cool guy you could get the real steel g5 metamorph front flipper for 75$. You’ll earn my respect.

Just saw this today!
Was introduced just last November. The blue one is now on my short list to acquire this year.

Just wish it was better steel than 14C28N and the frame was titanium. That blue looks great but it ain't going to stay that way long in aluminum.

The marksman does have a unique lock and is a flipper. Used it for awhile until I dropped it and it stopped working. But nice design over all.
