I was doing some Christmas shopping yesterday when I observed one of the store workers using a coat hanger to open (or trying to) a taped box of shirts. He spent a good couple of minutes on something that would've taken five seconds with a sharp knife. It was hilarious watching him struggle with the apparently herculean task of box opening. I guess I could've offered him the use of my sodbuster, but I needed a good laugh after a couple of hours in the mall.

You carry a knife? Creepy!;)

Yeah, sometimes it's very funny. The other day somebody called me a freak because I carry a knife. (I had an Opinel and a Leatherman Wave on me) Then I told him I have more than 150 knives. Now he kind of avoids me...

Kind regards,

Jos

150 knives - Damn

If you ever feel like lessening the load, I will gladly take some off your hands :D:D:thumbup::thumbup:

Man's oldest tool.
Yup, you should have showed him your Soddie.

Yeah, but he probably would have cut himself then called the cops saying you were trying to kill him.:D

A simple box-cutter would have worked. Knives are unnecessary for a lot of tasks.

Because a box cutter ISN'T a knife, and everyone thinks box cutters are a more elegant way of carrying around a knife.

You know that a box cutter is a knife, right?

EDIT: Oops got beaten to saying that:o

You're right, a box cutter would have worked for that, but in a sense box cutters are knives. They're also pretty limited outside of that, and not very convenient to carry around in your pocket. I find a Vic Classic's knife alone more useful.

EDIT: wow, a lot of responses at once. Didn't mean to pile on.

Actually I was talking about in terms of on-the-job tasks. The guy should have been carrying or had access to a box cutter since he was a store employee.

Bringing knives to work for such simple tasks is usually unnecessary and useless.

Unnecessary, possibly. Useless, no way.

What is elegant about a box cutter?

Elegant?

No this is elegant

I see Rat's "nonsense" and raise him a "pish posh!"

Why not have a multitasking knife at work? Today at work a client sent a gift box of salami and cheese (nom!). Guess who had a pocket knife to cut it with!

What...was I gonna take a boxcutter to it? No! And I can open boxes, envelopes, etc, etc etc with the same knife. And its a pretty little slippie and nobody freaks out!

Its a win-win-win.

Of course, there are restrictions concerning carrying knives at work. Whether this is sensible is imo quite questionable. These restrictions are made for NKP aka sheeple and do support the idea that knives themselves are something dangerous that needs to be kept out of the public.
The usefulness of things is more than debatable, but there is no answer. Is it useful to go on holiday every year, to drink whisky, to use makeup, to own 150 knives or more? For me, carrying a knife whenever I leave the house has proven to be quite useful. Edit: Oh, he was banned...damn that was quick...:D
