If ESEE or RAT did not exist What would you use?

beckers - i have a bk2, bk9, bk13, & bk11. i'll probably add a condor machete & bark river bravo-1.

Tons of choices for folders, but ESEE = fixed blade so . . .
Actually, that's why I bought a 4. I had been shopping for a "survival" category knife, and had actually purchased a Gerber Bigrock to tide me over until I found something good. Knives I had considered:
Various Benchmade
SOG SealPup
SOG Team Leader
Various Ka-Bar
I think I would have settled on the Team Leader if I had not seen the ESEE knives.

ESEE5 = Tom Brown Tracker or ScrapYard Dumpster Mutt
Izula = Nothing. I got it because of the Patriot Knives deal, THEN became crazy about it.

I never had a Becker, but just don't care for the design - doesn't look like it would fit my hand well (similar to my old Gerber LMF II ASEK, which squeezed my fingers together in a hammer grip)

All my folders are Cold Steel (Ti-lite, Recon 1, Scimitar, Voyager). I have a few CS fixed blades, too: an Outdoorsman, a Sisu (awesome slicer), a SRK, and a Spike. I haven't used the Outdoorsman much, which is partly why I haven't bought an ESEE-6 yet. I have an old kukri that I've had since I was a kid to fill the roll of a chopper, but I'm thinking of giving a machete or a bolo knife a whirl.

Its interesting to find out that im not the only ESEE/Becker lover. makes me excited for the BRAT bk11/IZULA

me too on the becker/esee bk14 and what ever other name they deside on. anybody hear any further news on that yet?

I don't use ESEE exclusively either. I would just get something of similar size from Becker or Condor to replace the ESEE.

Well, before RAT the knife company existed, I used Ontario Rats.

If that's too Ratty for you still, I'd go with Busse

Bushwhacker in place of Junglas
Hellrazor in place of RC6
BAD in place of RC3

Oh, wait, I already have those. . .:D

Izula - Bark River Bravo Necker
RC4 - Bark River Canadian Special or Fallkniven F1
Lite Machete - Gerber Gator Machete

Fallkniven H1 and a WM1. Hang on, I already own those as well as my Izula's, RC3, RC3Mil and a RC5 so all is good in my world. Love having a choice!

Are we assuming that RAT the company is gone? Or the designs altogether?Cuz wouldn't the Ontario versions be a viable option?

I'd look at Becker. I was looking at a BK-2 or -7 after my purchase of an -11 when I came across RC. BHK's March Special knife is also a great alternative to the Izula. Just glad ESEE is around.

I was eyeballing with scrapyard knives before my RAT 4. They are good pieces for the $ in my opinion. Beside that, i carry my fallkniven F1. Great piece for buschraft.
