If you could only have one khurkri to get you through your entire life what would it be and why? It can be any model, any size. If HI can make it, you can have it. (Uncle, I'd paricularly like to ask this question of Kami Sherpa when he arrives)

Personally, I would have to choose my 15" AK. It is simply the best knife I own, bar none. (I reserve the right to change my mind after I examine an 18" WW2 and an 18"AK. Particularly the AK) It is an amazingly versitile tool a devestating weapon and it has soul.

A Tin Chirra that was about 25" long, with a flat thick butt-cap.

The advantage is that this would be strong enough so that I would never want another and it would perform well at any large jobs - chopping, digging, prying, hammering etc. . For the smaller work I would have the karda and chakma.

The disadvantage is that it would be a little heavier than my current 22" AK and thus difficult to do finer work with. However if it was my only knife this would not be a problem for long. My father grew up using an axe for most utility work and he can still use it for extended periods of time with one hand in a regular grip. This is a lot harder than it sounds. If I do this my forearm and wrist get tired very quickly even with a small light one like an Estwing camping axe.

Guess I would take my 17" sirupati. It's a little longer than the 15" AK but a little shorter and perhaps a little lighter. May be a better around tool/weapon.

Mind you, I don't have the full HI contingent yet.

Actually,if the grip were longer the hatched 18th.Cent. would merit serious consideration. With a different scabbard. And decent size tools.

Well as all I have been able to afford so far is my 21inch AK it would have to be it.

thanks and take care

18"WWII is my definate "grab and go". But would surely pine for the others left behind.

:
Gee!! That's easy. My 18" Ang Khola.
With the new karda and chakma I am working on for it.
Why? Because I found out I could get another 1/2" on the karda.

I also want the little tools to match.

The !8" is my favorite. The only thing that would have made it better is if it would have had a karda with a 5" blade about 1" wide with a slightly longer handle.I will be close with a 4 1/2" X 3/4" and a white tail stag handle.

Will do Uncle Bill.
Uhhh. Is there turquoise in Nepal?
I guess it wouldn't matter since I am putting the stag handles on anyway, but I am thinking of putting a nugget in the karda handle.

Yvsa, I don't know if the turqoise is mined in Nepal or not but it is a favorite -- along with coral.

Hard 2 decide. Have a real thick 15"AK, but the 20" has a lot more blade to wear out over the long haul.

A hard one, either 18" WWII or 22" Ang Khola?

I'll go with the 18" WWII. It will pretty well do anything I can do with the 22" Ang Khola with a bit more effort and time. The 18" WWII cuts better as well.

Cliff, the 18th. cent. scabbard is carved wood.It fits well and Bill sent me a BAS frog for it.The throat and tip are silver and the wee companions won`t stay in with horn against metal. The scabbard is designed for the high born who do not need the tools and carry it in a sash. The khuk is great.A 3" karda is not too useful.Even a little blade weight would help.I`ll have to get together with Bill on that. He`ll need some measurements.Haven`t taken the time.A longer blade would fit.I need to run a rod down there and see what is possible.

It looks like the WWII 18 inch is the favorite. Maybe that's why I am sold out of this model.

Uncle Bill

I'll have to throw my vote in with the 18" WWII crowd. I've had mine for several weeks now & have given it quite a workout at our camp. In addition to everything else it does well, it is simply the best kindling machine I have ever owned.

Now, since there doesn't need to be only one...
