If you could design your own GEC SFO

A #77 Barlow with a "sheepcliffe" blade similar to the one on the #82 Dixie Stockman. It would be EO and feature primitive bone and a half-stop.

I'd buy that in a minute. My first traditional (excluding a boy scout knife when I was 11) was an Old Timer. Damn, I miss that knife.

Derrek from KSF has been here for quite some time. I didn't realize that this was a different account until you pointed it out.

I should introduce Tom. Tom is on our staff and I created a different account for him so he wold be able to post too. :) I'm still around. I am the real Derrick.

Thanks for the info Derrick, a few of us were scratching our heads :)

My SFO would be a larger two bladed Canoe pattern in the 4" size area (probably the #42 frame) with burnt stag.

Knife perfection, have a couple of these mint in my drawer and a daily carry with some worn down blades.

I would produce the Schrade 93OT Wrangler in a slightly heavier frame, with 1095 blades (with a wider Clip thanks to the heavier frame) and use sawcut brown bone handles with a shorter shield. OH

It would likely be the kind of knife that you carry in a leather slip versus loose in your pocket. Yeah, it would be a bit heavy. But I like the S&M large Gunstock Jack and 2-bladed GEC #42. These are knives you cut stuff with and big enough to apply a fair amount of force whether it be a walk in the woods, camping, at work, or around town.

I would be perfectly content with a slimmed down version at 4" closed length.

Magnum with wharncliffe primary and punch secondary. Red jigged bone like on my Outlaw.

Eureka whittler. Wharncliffe primary, Spey secondary and punch to follow. Koa handles.

Both coined liners, no shields, especially the ugly cloud shield so much wood is covered by, really don't like that shield. Magnum barehead, with rat tail bolster, pinched. Eureka should most likely be double bolstered with the punch, but would love it shadow to show off the Koa to the greatest degree. Top bolster threaded like this old pruner:

I might have thought about this. Can you tell I like wharncliffes and punches!!

Always liked the Jack Knife blade set up vs. the Pen Knife.

GEC #33 with Clip primary & wharnclife secondary with both blades on the same end.

Shoot GEC could do this easily as they already did a #33 Whittler, so just use that with the regular clip blade and the wharnclife blade.

I would want an ivory 85 with EO. Match strike long pull with that beautiful arrow head. Definitely with nickel silver bolsters. And most importantly a big fat spear.

#48 single blade with big clip seems to be my favorite pattern so far. id want one with stainless scales, probably be quite hefty

Some great ideas here.

Hope GEC's taking notes. I know I am. ;)

I think that if a dealer did a special order on every run and only changed the shield, that would be enough for it to consistently sell better than GEC's standard production. I think it would be a good opportunity for a dealer.

GEC rarely pays any attention to using an appropriate shield (the old catalog scans stickied to the top of the forum are a good reference). Unfortunately GEC just slaps hotdog or cloud shields on anything that doesn't have their Tidioute or UNXLD shields.

If some of the poor sellers had been made with crest, federal or bowtie shields without any branding, they'd be sold out rather than sitting in inventory.

Lots of great ideas, you guys know your stuff. I had to go and do a little looking to figure it out. A single clip #74 saddle trapper, all steel, bullocks shield with a lanyard hole. Tidioute ebony and red jigged of some sort. THEN, and F&F SFO version of this pattern in a shadow with brown micarta, green micarta if it did well.

82 and 66 pattern stockman with a California clip, sheepsfoot, and punch.

I would also really like a single blade 85 with ivory paper micarta, arrow shield, steel liner and bolsters, long matchstrike pull and an EO notch. A little threading on the top bolster would be nice too.

I think a 77 with clip main and pen secondary in stainless would be great.
Tort acrylic would be a nice cover for it.
