If you could only carry one blade,

my traditional choice for one and only (from the ones I currently own)... this one can do it all:

If I could cary anything with no repercussions it woild be the Smith and Sons Mudbug in the belt sheath that is offered with it.

Because of the current atmosphere and the fact that this is in Traditional, my Case Mini Copperlock in stainless.

My GEC 42 in micarta and 440C. I'd take it anywhere, sure in the knowledge it'd be coming back with me.

I've not felt I was lacking for anything with my #77 Barlow with single sheepfoot. It's been my primary EDC since I received it 6 months ago.

Not sure I got it right, but I think the OP is asking about a single blade shape, not a knife or pattern :)
If this is the case, then I'll go with Jeff and pick the zulu spear as well ;)
Oh, and CPM-154 is good enough for me :)

Limited to one blade only (for a pocketknife) it would be a standard clip (similar to this Case). OH

For a single blade edc slip joint I would take my trapper by Gary Crowder.

Or my Lanny's Clip by Doc Hagen.

Thankfully, I can choose from several and am not limited to single blade designs. I often carry more than one in the course of the day.

As much as I love the warncliffe and sheepsfoot, I'd go with a clip point for overall versatility.

Clip, Spear, Drop Point, Sheepfoot, Wharncliffe, etc could all be a good choice for EDC but...

...having EDC'd the knife at the top of this photo exclusively for 10 years I believe a clip blade would be my first choice.
(It does in fact also have a spear blade but the clip alone would have been sufficient.)

I had in mind an EDC folder single blade pocket knife. Hunting and wood whacking are another story. Just one single bladed EDC folder. I'm kinda picking everybody's brain here.

I always carry a single bladed 111mm Vic Sak. But if I were choose another knife, the single bladed Northwoods Madison comes pretty close to perfection for me in jigged bone. I tend to prefer two bladed traditionals and my choice there is the GEC #42, Northwoods Madison 2-blade, or the S&M large Gunstock Jack in stag. You will notice that all of these knives are right around 4-4.25" closed length. If I want something slimmer or lighter, it's the single bladed GEC #65 Ben Hogan.

Without a doubt I would grab my Case Stockman, 3 blades helped make that decision ;) plus it's a great cutter!

I did regrind the spine of the spey blade down to look closer to a pen blade, without moving where the tip was located;

My one request would be to get it in cmp3v but then, it'd cost a tad more :)

There's a few that I really favor. The Lanny's Clip being one of those. If I had to choose just one blade it'd be a modified Wharncliffe, similar to this Jerry Halfrich "Small Rounder". This blade shape is the best of both worlds to me and can do whatever I could ask of a folder. This one is CPM-154.

Note; The fuzziness around the shield is just pocket dust. The fit of the shield into the bone is as crisp as an Autumn morning in the Adirondacks.

Gary, not only is your Small Rounder beautiful, it looks perfectly functional as well!

Chris, the Clip blade on your Crowder is about as nice a Clip blade as I've ever seen. OH

Oh, must do that with my next spey blade. Never liked the shape of the factory spey

If I could only have one knife I'd go with the Case large stockman.

If just one knife with a single blade I'd go with the blade shape of the Benchmade 940 Osborne only in a traditional slippie with bone handles and shaped like a trapper. Just a great all-around blade shape.

Thank you OH. I carried the Crowder almost exclusively for about 18 months. I have really enjoyed the knife, but the friendship that came with it are of considerably more value to me. Unfortunately Gary's wife died recently. I have been terribly saddened for my friends loss.

If I could only carry a one-bladed folder, it would probably be a clip blade in stainless steel. I like the clip blade's versatility and the easier maintenance of stainless.

I started this thread to pick your brains about what the ultimate blade shape would be, and material. I've carried a wharncliffe for quite a while and have used the sharp tip for I don't know how many slivers etc. The blade shape isn't the most appealing to my eay, but how can you get by without a sharp tip? The clip point just doesn't have the lines that appeal to me. It looks un-planned and lacks grace (in my eye). The modified wharncliffe, however, has the best of both worlds. I'm going to have a knife made for me, and one of the things that I wanted in it was ease of profiling on an Edge Pro. The modified wharncliffe has it all. Seems many like CPM 154. Never had a blade of it, but probably will. Thanks for all the ideas.
