If you could only choose ONE knife

Does my 18" HI WWII khurki count as one knife (it comes in a sheath with a small karda (little knife) and chakma (steel))? But that might be cheating because then you could choose any knife with a big sheath and put anything you want in it.

If not, with all the great things I've heard about Busse, probably one of their medium large blades (I don't know the Busse lingo enough to know exactly what model I'd want), or one of those Chris Reeve Nkonkas.

If it had to be one that I already own, it would probably be the Ka-Bar USMC.

(The A1 is too big, the WM1 is nice but too small.)

The way the thread described the situation....you and all those women, then size wouldn't matter, but how long it will last does

I know what you mean but the A1 is too big to do small fiddly things with. If I only had to pick just ONE knife, then it would be the F1/3G.

Swiss tool would be my 2nd choice, in the fist place I'd probably go for something like that, not with the cork screw, of course, but with a gut blade and a saw:

The Swiss tool isn't really that great for gutting, field dressing, and self defense.

The SwissTool does not have a corkscrew.
And it does have a saw.

Maybe you're confusing it with another tool?

Again, check out this link and look at the tools on the SwissTool...

Probably a 6" fixed blade butcher knife. Best all around utility knife, and great at making all the other tools you will need, like drawknifing the handle on an axe.

If you can't make other tools with it, you will quickly wear out any knife. It's all about conserving your primary tool as long as possible.
Agree 100%,the most of the things I do with one, alternative would be machete.

If urban survival is a factor, then a SwissTool would be a good idea. For the woods, a good stout folder such as a Buck 277 would do fine. A large fixed blade would also be a consideration.

Gee this thread has been around almost a year and brought back to life, the title says what is the only knife, not what is the only tool. So I want a hatchet, its not a knife, a small saw, its not a knife, and maybe a mid-size knife. If you were in the mix of a bad place the old SAK might be better the than the mammoth chopping size knife. the little SAK saw might go through branches fast than the big knife, if not the first how about the tenth. You are not going to be cutting up log sized firewood you will probally be burning fallen wood and making shelter out of what is easiest availiable. Pat

my leatherman charge will do just fine comfortable easy to carry and has every utility needed on it to survive, wood saw file knife serrated blade and gut hook doesnt get much nicer than that
