If you could only choose ONE knife

I would go with a Fallkniven A-2 (8") for all around everything. I would prefer 2 though.

... this knife would be the only one you will have for the rest of your life. What ONE knife would you choose to survive in the wild and what are the reasons for your choice?

Whatever the knife, I'd supplement it with a hatchet and a saw. If at all possible, I wouldn't spend the rest of my life in the wild.

If the question was "Which one knife would you EDC for the rest of your life?" I would probably take a LM Charge TTi.

I have changed my mind, since I replied the first time. I would take my Pocket Rocket; as it is big enough that I could baton with it, and it is a hefty folder, I wouldn't feel under knifed with it.

If I could only have one for the rest of my life??

It would have to be made of INFI & Cloth Micarta/G10.;)

So,Any model Busse would do.

Swamp rat knife works Bog Dog D-2
It is big enough and hard enough to last a long time, is a useful size, is less prone to breakage than a multi-tool, and can be comfortably worn twenty four hours a day if desired.

I would take a TAi Goo bush bowie in a hikot wood sheath.
Not much you can not do. You also can use it to make tools for jobs at hand. The further and longer you get off the trail is where a large knife shines. It is not carried on a belt but on an over the shoulder braided strap. Blade is 9-10" with a hand friendly wrap to avoid chewed up hands.
It also has a hollow handle to make a wicked spear or a long chopping implement.

oh.. i just get a kick out of these threads...:o

i am a big fan of field knives in the 3-4 in. range... i very rarely carry a blade larger than that... if needs be, i would much rather carry a small axe or saw..

these 2 knives seem to fit the bill just fine for me... i would take either one, though i prefer both... SAK farmer and a custom utility style knife, made by mark w. of charlie ridge knives... it sports a 3 in. 1095 blade and natural micarta scales... this knife is a great all around user...:D

If it were anything with a blade I would take mt leatherman chagre ti or my kabar machete.

If it's strictly a knife probably a manix.

Do we have to stay in the wild? If we have the ability to move from the wild to some type of town or city, even if it is destroyed, then I'm sure one can find another edged tool. That said you would need one knife to fill that task of travel....so methinks 5-7" Busse. It doesn't really matter which model. Big enough to baton and maybe chop but small enough to so some fine tasks. Jack of all Trades type.

This is making me think, rather than have to choose one or the other why not just get someone to build a custom swiss army axe shovel? Best of all worlds.
