If you could only choose ONE knife

For MANY years of hard use, chopping wood for shelter, firewood, and pointy stick weapons. Cracking and chipping rock to make smaller scraping and cutting tools (using the top edge). Digging for tubors and other buried treasures. And a good, strong point for doing battle with predators and other hostiles.
I would choose the Cold Steel, Carbon V San Mai, Trailmaster.

If I had to choose only one knife, it would probably be something practical by Victorinox, one of those slightly bigger ones with a lock.
My usage is more 'gentleman" like, hence I would not choose something heavy-duty instead.
It wouldn't be my favourite knife however (currently that's perhaps my Laguiole, but I hesitate)

We've done this debate a million times before. It ALWAYS comes down to two choices:
Excalibur and a Light Saber.

My real answer would probably be either a Busse Heavy Heart or AK-47

YO, guys! We're talkin bout YEARS of survival in the desert, forest, jungle, and tundra. If you expect a Swiss Army Knife (or any other folder) under heavy use to last you for the rest of your life, then you must be figurin to die young. And how much chopping (job-1 in the wilderness) do you expect to do with a small blade? This aint no week in the woods with Les Stroud or Bear Grylls!
An axe would be the best, but we're talkin bout knives.

PS. Yes, I do live in a mobile home next to a train track, wear Def Leppard concert tour T-shirts, and Joe Dirt is my favorite movie. However, my eyes are the correct distance apart, my feet have the correct number of toes, and my sister is not also my mother. (not that there's anything wrong with that!:D)

You can sit in the waiting room or wait in the sitting room, but how can you be two places at once when you're really nowhere at all?
CRUST never sleeps!

Although it would probably make the most sense to take a nice Swiss Army Knife this is the one that I keep thinking of. Brend model 2.

I'm biased but I would stick with my current favorite Ray Rogers folder.
It's built strong as hell, is almost rust proof with its titanium handles and S30 V blade, and is easy to carry in its case.

What the hell. I'll take a stainless steel, 1985, DeLorean time machine!:)

YO, vjb.knife. That Brend is a beauty. 7-8 inch blade? Steel type?

Light saber hands down!

Hey Sodak. Does a light saber get its energy from batteries located in the handle? Solar power? Some other easily renewable energy source thats accessible in a wilderness?
No, wait, I got it! It's the "FORCE" being channeled through the Jedi and into the saber.
I'm sticking with the DeLorean anyway. Oh yeah? If you're not a Jedi Knight, can you make the light saber work?

I'd take a light saber, but I'd probably end up light-sabering my own leg off, seeing as there's no weight where the "blade" is to remind me that its "unsheathed.";)

Actually, I'd take my Leatherman Core (my current EDC multitool), a RAT Cutlery RC-5 (thing is a tank, BELIEVE IT:D), an Estwing hatchet (get 'em at Farm & Fleet for $30.00:thumbup:), and some kind of folding saw (not sure what brand). Hey, he said only one KNIFE, not one CUTTING TOOL. This should cover all my cutlery needs.

What, the Leatherman has two knives on it, so I'm cheating, you say?... SNAP, SNAP-Not anymore!:p

I can't argue against the coolness factor of a DeLorean. But, as for the light saber, it's a battery pack!!!! Yes, you can work a lightsaber! I give lessons - cheaply too!!!!:D

This is very cool. This Jedi is getting jealous....

Jim Bowies legendary knife made from the metal of a meteorite.
The knife used by Cornel Wilde in "The Naked Prey". (1966)
The knife the mayor gave Faith to kill Buffy with.
A Monza, a Mazda, a babies arm holding an apple!...(what do you want from life?)

Thanks Mick, It's one of my favorites. It is an 8" D2 blade. Walter's craftsmanship is hard to beat and the durability is legendary.

I wouldn't want a folder, since it would be difficult to keep the liner clean. Personally, I would want a 4-6 inch flat ground, fixed blade, drop point hunter in something like ATS34 or AUS-8 so that it would keep a good edge but could still be sharpened easily.
