Hello, I am brand new to this forum. Some quick background, I'm from New Jersey, Im a member U.S. Air Force Security Forces(Air National Guard) and I am a Police Officer in my hometown. Recently i have been going into knives and flashlights. Then i realized I'm not a collector, I just need two. One for work (police)(military) one for off time (casual) to carry everyday. So I would appreciate some feedback on your top 2 choices. My spending limit for both knives is $300 combined.

So far. After watching videos and reading reviews. I have come up with a few that i think would be good choices for my situation.

  1. Spyderco Delica 4 Wave
  2. Spyderco Paramiitary 2
  3. Benchmade 940 Osborne
  4. Banchmade Mini-Griptilian
  5. Benchmade Bone Collector
  6. Surefire EW-13

Any opinions whatsoever would be greatly appreciated Thank you.

Have you looked into ZT? Very solid, well built knives. The 0200 would be a great patrol knife. The 0550s and 560s are great as well.

Definitely the PM2. The second one should in my mind then be something very different from the PM2 as the PM2 will do just about everything for you in and and out of uniform. For $300 you can get the Military + PM2. For more a man cannot ask.

If I was in your position I would first get the PM2 and carry that for a time and only later decide what I miss and get something to cover that need. I wouldn't get two right away. You might, for example, find that the PM2 covers pocket carry needs well enough in and out of uniform and that something like a neck knife (just an example) makes more sense as a secondary option.

If I was a Law Enforcement Officer, and had only one knife, I think I would choose the Buck 091 Responder.
This year they come with a 154CM Blade, has a seatbelt cutter in the handle, and pretty darn tough.
I have a fixed blade version that came shaving sharp....face shaving....

For duty, the Benchmade Contego definitely. For off-duty, I'd recommend the Superblue Stretch. Great steel, great cutter, and will maintain it's value very well even when used. Both superb performers.

You only carry 1 knife at work? My duty knives (everyday): Emerson Super 8, Zt 300, Spyderco Rescue and a Cold Steel safe maker 2 Off Duty (rotation): XM-24, PM2, Military Ti, Manix 2 XL, ZT 560, Strider SMF.. I wouldn't use a PM2 on duty, it's a very thin blade and I'd be afraid of breaking it.

No lanyard hole on the contego... deal breaker for duty

For personal carry consider one of the many slip joint options or a spyderxo UK pen knife, exskelibur 2, Kershaw skyline or benchmade mini presidio. Those are my options for the weekend. The skyline is the cheapest but outside of traditional slip joints is the easiest to deploy and most compact.

Para 2 and the mini grip. They're both great knives, and having both will cover both small and large edc options. This is especially nice if you're traveling someplace where they have blade size restrictions.

Question, Im pretty much set one 1 knife "Spyderco Paramilitary 2" What color should i get?

The PM2 is very scarce so you might not have much of a choice. For military use black blade and black/camo G10. I've got the satin blade and black G10. You can easily pimp the PM 2 with custom made Putman scales later on.

I would go with the para 2 and bm 940. If I could only have two knives I would probably go with a pimped spyderco military with cruwear, xhp, m4 or s90v and a case large stockman in chrome vanadium. Both knives would be carried together, the millie doing the most work but large stockmans have a ton of versatility for just one knife.

Spyderco PM2 and the Mini Grip. I have owned both and they are both great knives!! Good luck!!
