If you could only own 3 knives for the rest of your life...

8-inch chef: one of Miyabis or Tojiros will do

fixed camp knife: I have one that was gifted to me that I like. No clue who made it. Mora companion or similar

3-inch folder: native 5/delica 4/Sage/chaparral

Hey Wasty,
I like your choices of knives from the BK line - I agree those are really great blades. Please don’t feel offended, but I picked your post out of several to comment on this issue: I was kind of SHOCKED to see so many people are selecting a Swiss Army Knife ... I’m just commenting on my surprise and confusion as to why so many people in this thread would choose a SAK over a Leatherman. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Hi Iron,

I have several multitools, (Leatherman, Gerber, Victiorinox) and they come in handy sometimes, but for me, they don't actually belong into the category of knives.

Besides that, the quality and of the SAKs I own is just amazing. I have 20yo SAKs that are as good as new, as I usually don't abuse them or use them that often.
They dependably work when they need to work.

Understood. SAK's are definitely a classic - I'm glad they're working for you.:)👍

Carothers Performance Knives super duty field knife (SDFK)
It will cover everything I need a knife for.

Since I get 2 more -

Carothers Performance Knives Defensive Everyday Knife 1 (DEK1)
Carothers Performance Knives behemoth chopper

I own these 3 knives and I can honestly say that they cover all the bases. I haven't bought another fixed blade since getting these 3 and I really don't have a desire to because they're so good.

What knives would make the cut so to speak 😜 and even more importantly why?

There is no universe in which anyone would ever be limited to three knives. I don't understand why people find threads like this interesting.

My EDC is a minimum of four knives:
tiny SAK for utility (Victorinox Rambler)
my good folder (vintage Gerber Harsey AirFrame)
a small fixed blade (usually my vintage Benchmade 100RR),
and another small fixed blade that is only for food (currently a Buck Diamondback 475, thinking about replacing this with the MKM Pocket Tango 3, but $$$).

These are just the knives I carry in civilization. If I'm going into the woods or the backcountry, I have a completely different set of knives for that.

I don't really think in terms of specific knives. I think it terms of specific tasks for which I will need a knife. The particular knife that fits that category for me may change over time, or even from day to day. The first three have been my personal choices for about 20 years, the last only started about 10 years ago, when I started working outside my home, again, and found myself making lunch away from home.
