I went with the RC4. While I have several other RAT's the RC4 is the best all arounder that I've seen. Coupled with the sheath system it becomes even better.
I considered the RC-3 vs RC-4 for a long time. I wanted a blade that I could use for deer hunting plus have enough backbone to provide me with the ability to use it for a number of other outdoor duties.....I think I made the correct choice making the RC-4 my first (but not last) RAT blade.
To be quite honest, one RAT, I would choose the RC 5. It isn't the best for anything, perhaps, but I use it the most out of the 3, 4, 5, 6 and Izula. Not sure why, but I always use it when I am out and about.
Rc-4, I originally wanted the Rc-3 but thought that it was a bit small for an outdoor knife for my needs. The Rc-5 might have been a good choice I just have never handled one and feared it would be a bit to big (Geez this is kinda goldie locks ish...) Then I found the Rc-4 when it came out and was like.....BAM thats for me and got one and LOVE it..really happy with this product in my top 5 for sure.
RC-4 - largest blade I can legally carry without worry about legal reason.
(I usually have a legal reason: I need the knife to cut things, but unfortunately authorities want something more specific without guarantee the reason is accepted, I just like to stay within legal knife sizes.
Probably an RC-3 would suffice, but I like large knifes. (But I still love my Izula, which is larger than it looks)
It's a tough call between the 3 and 4. I voted for the 4. I like the size and the slightly thicker handle of 4. I also give the RC-4 the slight edge on the sheath over the RC-3. I also like that the RC-4 is thick at the spine without giving up much in the way of cutting ability thanks to the tall flat grind.
Ask me again next week and you may get a different answer.
