If you had 3

I did the fire bow once in Boy Scouts to earn my badge. Never used it after that. I don't even know what wood down here in Central TX would work. We have a ton of cedar though.

My fallkniven S1/firesteel/swisstool( I keep them all in my spec-ops sheath. If this doesn't count I drop the swisstool),Gi poncho( I can't get over how many uses it has),The book BUSHCRAFT.It'd be so helpful.

great thread tony...

hhmmmmm.. only 3 eh'... here's mine...

- 3-4 in. fixed blade.
- small pot/cup with lid.
- ferro rod.

My 3 essentials? --- Marty Simon, Ron Hood, and Jeff Randall. (can I really only have 3 )

Anyway, more to the spirit of the thread. I'm pretty much with Rockywolf. For me, it would be my Becker Machax, my large Guyot, and about a 8X10 tarp (which can also be made into a makeshift poncho) and although, a poncho can be used for shelter, I'd rather have to use a tarp for a poncho, in a long term survival situation.

Oh, and Pierre wants some 10 year old Wiser's Deluxe, Coca Cola and a whole whack of cheese! :D

Well this is Bladeforums. If a knife, a good knife, a real quality knife, does not make your list; Go to another forum:D Seriously the knife is such an important tool and is easily the most useful tool for.................ever. Ever invented. Knives (cutting tools) have a part in making everything we use.
So first up a good knife. Take your pick as long as you can trust your life to it. And much as the original poster I count my Knife and Flint as one Item

Next Food. I don't want to go without food for seven days. I wouldn't starve to death but having food in your belly helps to keep up energy to stay fight off the elements be it cold, heat, illness, whatever. So for food procurement I would bring a .22 caliber semi auto handgun. No post I have read suggested a gun yet. You might have other choices but I want to keep in the spirit of minimal gear. A large handgun or rifle would not be keeping in that spirit and would count as two items. I'm not saying I'm a great hunter but I am saying I'm terrible at fishing, trapping, and foraging.

Last a cooking pot for boiling water and making stews.

Those are my three choices.

Guess I'd go with the following:

Location: Northern New Mexico

1. Bark River Aurora/ferro rod

2. Gatewood Cape

3. Flexible water bottle: 3 liter

Fixed blade w/firesteel
Sleeping bag
pot

Can I request that I'm stranded near a lake? :D

C'mon bro I count 4 there ! We are obviously like minded in our choices but as I only picked 3 I opted to go without the knife !:(

hmmm...wet coast (actually the Mainland) of BC:

- Husky 3120 XP chainsaw
- 25 liters of 50:1 pre mix gas
- 25 liters bar oil

with the chainsaw i could fell and slab a LOT of big cedars, and build a nice dry cedar shingled cabin, and have firewood too. I could use the hot muffler to ignite gas soaked woodchips to light a fire, once going its easy to keep going. To gather food i could chainsaw thru the cabin doors of the summer people and loot their dry goods and freezers ( alot of them leave food in their freezers all year....) beer too, whatever i could find,.........heck the possibilities are endless....I could fell trees into a creek and dam it, trapping fish in the pool, make a old time water trough and pipe water into the cabin for cold refreshing showers and water.........all that cedar bark can be pounded down and made into blankets, sleeping pads and garments, and rope.......rope to make snares (ah i'd just make a big deadfall and eat bear!

The only way I would go without a knife is if I were stranded in Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory for 7 days:D Nah who am I kidding. I would bring a knife to "handle" any singing Umpa Lumpa's:p

Actually on reflection I'm sure a Kentucky bucket, bottle of Jack daniels and a sleeping bag would be all I'd need for 7 days !!!

Do clothes count?

If not,

Firesteel

Mid sized (5" or so Busse or Swamp Rat), knife

SS pot

For sure in Oct, I will at least be wearing my Filson shelter cloth shirt and more than likely the wool Mac.

I'm from S. Fl., and last winter was the first time I ever saw snow that stuck. It DID snow in Miami in 1977, but I don't think that counts. In 3 days it was back in the 70's.

I'm thinking a fire steel my Ratweiler and a decent sized SS pot with a bail.

Well, I keep about 15 feet of paracord wrapped around the sheath of my Ranger RD7, and a Schrade Old Timer and Light My Fire firesteel in the sheath pouch, so I'm going to go ahead and (cheat and) call that one item.

Next would be an 8'x10' tarp and a box of granola bars. If need be, I could use the tarp to gather drinking water (or I could make a birch bark cup, which would double as a cooking pot). With a box of Back to Nature organic granola bars (those things are TASTY!) I would only need to fish maybe twice in the week, using a sapling, a carefully whittled wooden split hook, and the paracord on my knife sheath. Fire would be no problem, with the firesteel. For shelter I would have the tarp plus paracord for a simple tarp shelter. Insulation would be provided by leaves.

Hmm, I might have to try this come October!

there is alot to be said about what is your clothing, is a bandanna part of clothing or is it an item, what about a hat, I always have a hat in the woods

but assuming I can wear my hat or a bandanna 1)Sak Handyman/ferro rod on the lanyard 2) harmonica 3) coffee can with wire to hang it.
