  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

If you had a Benjamin to last a lifetime what would you buy?

Opinel no.8 Carbon
Byrd CaraCara or Meadowlark
Cold Steel 12' Bowie Machete
Cold Steel 18' Barong Machete
Mora Companion

About a $100 for all of these. Game, set, match.

Byrd Cara Cara 2, whatever SAK struck my fancy, Tramontina Bolo machete, Mora Robust. If I had enough left over, maybe a CS Bushman for fun. Those would pretty much cover anything I might want to do with a knife.

Well, I'd like; a. 4-6" (blade length) fixed blade, 2.5-3.5" fixed blade, SAK, paring knife, 7" butcher knife, 6" boning knife, and a slip joint (nostalgia). I'd attempt to purchase good examples of each at yard sales, thrift stores, CL, pawn shops and word of mouth. I'd probably get a saw and ax with whatever money was left over. Maybe some sand paper to help get things cleaned up. :)

Mora 511, SAK Tinker, Svord Peasant knife, CS Frontier Hawk, Buck Vantage, and I'd still have some money left...

BK16, Victorinox Alox Farmer.

I don't know. There are lots of ways I could go with this. $100 just doesn't do it.

Only $100?

I'd buy some good steel and learn to make my own.

Knife making is not cheap. You need to take into account abrasives, handle material, and even if you skip power tools, you need to invest in hand tools (files, saws and alike). You will need to make wrapped or glued handles because with no power tolos, you will have a hard time drilling holes in it. So take into account material for that also.

In all seriousness, making a knife, unless you do it for the fun of it or make them in batches and sell for a profit... is usually not worth it! And the price of the steel (if you stick to carbón steel that you can heat treat at home) is the least of your worries.

Regarding OP question, I will go with a VIC Rucksak and a Mora (anyone). I don't think I will ever need anything else.

A used Spyderco Gayle Bradley. One of very few knives I have owned that I am sure will (1) never leave my collection and (2) outlive me.

A spyderco manix 2 xl would do it for me, I have seen satin blade ones right around $100. Maybe I should get one than I will have every variation except for the original full liner one which I cant find anywhere or I would have it:(

Honestly, if I needed a couple of tools to last me a lifetime on a hundo, I'd do it this way:

- Leatherman 300, $50
- Mora Robust Companion - $15
- Ontario Rat 1 folder - $30

Use the five bucks left over to put towards a good sharpening set-up, and you're good to go. Won't be the prettiest girls at the dance, but they'll get you home!

Technically I said knives. Sharpening is a whole different story lol anyway a good knife is worthless without a good sharpener. I would choose a sharpmaker just because I'm comfortiable with it and it's easy to use.

Well, to be fair the 300 has both a regular blade AND a serrated blade! Two for one! :D

I just bought a Sharpmaker myself, haven't had a chance to play with it yet.

i get an SAK, a spyderco Delica or Endura and a Mora. if you shopped used you might have cash left over to get another fixed blade.
