  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

If you had a Benjamin to last a lifetime what would you buy?

SAK Climber, which is about $25. Mora Classic 2, about $15. Condor, Imacasa, Tram, whatever machete, in the 12" neighborhood, another $10. I could double that up, for spares.

Assuming multi-tools don't count, I would get an OLFA XH-AL for EDC ($20 + $20 for a lifetime of spare blades if you sharpen them), and a Condor Hudson Bay ($38).

I hesitated before jumping into this thread, because the $100 is just too much...

$30 Buck 110 = hunting knife
$30-$40 Victorinox SAK = EDC

To spend the $100, maybe add another 110 or alternative SAK. In reality, I can spend more than $100 on knives, but even so, the knives I've mentioned here are my primary EDC knives, and all I really "need" use. They're the kinda knives I grew us using. I guess my uses for them haven't changed too much. Everything else is just fluff (or of spending too much time surfing the forums). If I were at war, or in a wilderness/survival situation, I might opt for some others (maybe add a USMC Kabar utility knife, or my USGI machete).

Bahco folding saw in orange, stainless Mora Companion, Condor Barong or Hudson Bay, axe file.

For under a hundred bucks, I'd probably go Cold Steel Code 4 in spear point. Lots of blade and the triad locking system is proven.

I'd spend the rest on a Kershaw Skyline. It's a very cost efficient EDC folder and the steel is good.

For me, I would spend 20 on a Mora and a small SAK, take very good care of both, then replace as required. I'm not sure that I could get 50 years out of the Benjamin, but at 56 years old, I probably will have some money to leave the kids when I die.

This thread just goes to show you that it's hard to beat a SAK. Mine would be

Victorinox Pioneer - 25.00
Leatherman Micra for my keys - 10.00 (one of the government auctions)
Mora Companion - 15.00
Ontario RAT 2 - 30.00

Because you can find most of these used on the forum here, for maybe half what retail is, I'd buy all of them from the exchange forum:

- Victrorinox Classic (keyring knife)
- Victorinox Huntsman
- Kershaw Thermite
- Kabar/Becker BK7

The rest would be spent on beer for the time I'd spend in the mancave cleaning & sharpening & watching the game.
