If you had these knives, would you use them?

sell 'em, spend 40~ dollars on something from condor and beat the $#%^ out of it, and bank the rest

I'll probably carry the s90v and not use it, ....

That's a "worst case" scenario! Then you risk banging it up against stuff in your pocket or scatching the clip (de-safe-queen-ifying it) AND you aren't getting the satisfaction of using it!

You'll make yourself nuts! I'm with Big Mike...if it's killing you to use that knife, and it's killing you to NOT use that knife....get rid of it! Get something (either a safe queen or user) that you will be happy using or happy saving.

nope, but i don't buy knives i don't plan on using. if you didn't buy it to use it, well there you go.

on the spyderco. the only sprint run i bought ever was the para2 for the carpenter steel, but i planned on using it. so i haven't used it yet, but i will when the urge to put it to task hits.

if i want a user i buy a knife for a user. if i want a collectable, i'd buy a collectable and collect it only. i'm not a collector though, i'm a user, but's me and you are you. so i guess ask yourself the question, did you buy it to collect it or use it? then you have your answer.

i consider myself a collector/user so of course i would, as i use all my knives:)
a knife is meant to be used! at least that's how i see it.
that's why i don't ever buy knives in damacus or ones that are extremely beautiful that a little scratch would compromise it's beauty.
i hope you know what i mean:)

I have quite a few knives, I have the "designated users", and I have a few rare ones that I would LOVVVEEE to actually carry around and use but just can't get myself to do it. The thing is, I don't plan on ever selling them because I really love those knives. I'm hoping that someday I will make my whole knife collection "users".

I use my one of a kind customs. As to your question, use them without any reservations.

Use them. I have several hard to find knives that I use. Anything made by busse should be used for sure. I have a satin red game warden that I beat the crap out of. Think there are only 7 in existence. Once you get the first scratch you'll forget about it. Those tools were made to use and will last a long time. So use them. Just don't lose them and you'll be fine.

I carry and use a couple of Traditional Forum knives that make those look common (less than 150 made). I carried and used my purple BM 921 (one of 50) back in the day. For that matter, I carry and use one-of-a-kind customs. That is what is right for me, only you can decide what is right for you.

If you don't have anything like them already, use them. If you do, sell the one you like less (or give it away to a responsible friend if it's not worth selling).

If those were mine... I'd have to say "no".

The fixed blade is cool-looking, but I have no need or desire to carry anything so large and heavy. Sure wouldn't mind having that in my collection though.

The folder, nah. Can't even say I'd buy something like that.

Since you asked. ;)

Would you use them or keep them in pristine condition to retain their value?

I would use them, but only after I was certain I was keeping them. I buy and sell many knives, so I might only carry one few times before I decide it's not for me and move on. During that time, I keep it like new. If I start using it, I usually keep it for a long time.

If you bought a $100,000 Porsche would you drive it? A $10,000 Rolex watch would you wear it? I am guessing yes as most would do so why is a factory made knife any different, or almost any custom knife for that matter unless it is a showpiece. I have some expensive knives and some cheap knives that I have used the heck out of for decades and they still look almost as good as new. The sheaths not so much since I carry them out with me while hunting or just camping. Just because you use something doesn't mean it will be destroyed or abused. Even a hard used knife showing wear can be cleaned up to look almost new.

I am guessing that you may be dying to use them so enjoy them before your heirs do. Life is too short.

I cant get a knife and not use it. I dont mind taking a hit on resale value because i buy knives as users not collectables or investments. Plus i have never sold any of my knives.

In addition to knives, I'm also into watches, and those things can get darned expensive. The thing that put everything in perspective for me was when a friend of mine was hesitant to wear a "very" nice watch he received as a graduation present. One of my other friends said, "Saying a watch is too nice to wear is like saying a woman is too beautiful to sleep with."

Made sense to me...

Use the knives. Or else get rid of them. They just weigh you down!

People dont collect knives for an investment, let's face it knives aren't great for that. Then that's makes most of then users. Yes some knives are like artwork and you shouldn't use them but i find production knives aren't artwork because they are mass produced compared to a custom. I would use top one, you could save the spydie for 10 years then sell it.

I'm with Big Mike. If I have a knife that I won't use or don't want to use, I'm going to flip it to get something I don't mind using.

Life is short.
I would bet dollars to doughnuts that for the right price you will be able to buy a mint example of either of these to admire in the future, if that is important to you, but you won't be able to get back the time you spent not discovering how great they are to actually use.
