If you had to choose one Tactical Folder for Self Defense...

Something that fits my hand like a glove that can be deployed rapidly.

And for the obligatory smartass reply, "The one that's in my pocket at the time of confrontation."

I don't know which one but probably something Waved.

STR

Spyderco Yojimbo
Blackhawk Be-Wharned
Cold Steel Vaquero Grande

It all depends on how practical it is to carry a larger knife. I'd opt for the CS Vaquero Grande, Large Espada, or their folding kukhri (don't remember the name). If you need to carry a smaller knife, I'd opt for a wharncliffe or hawkbill.

After watching Chad Los Banos use the Spyderco Lava in multiple self defense techniques in a video it seems like a great self defense knife and I've carried one in my back pocket ever since. If I could choose something right at the time I'd go with something a bit a larger that I could use in large arcing swipes so I would go with a Spyderco Civilian. The Civilian's blade is wicked and I could imagine it doing some serious damage.

If my life was actually on the line, I'd probably say the CS Espada XL. I'd want the biggest nastiest waved knife on the block. The farther away from danger I am the better! :D

I'd rock a pair of scissors or a flat head screwdriver.... If you plan on having to put yourself in a situation where you find it necessary to stab people, please do so without giving pocket knives a further bad reputation. Personally, I'd use WHATEVER was around me before I'd even THINK about using a knife. There is NO SUCH THING as a fair fight unless you are fighting a friend, and in that case, I'd choose better company. First, I would AVOID physical contact. If that did not work, or there was NO way out, I would use a chair, a rock, a bicycle, my belt, a small woman or anything besides an obvious deadly weapon (like a knife) to defend myself.

If my life was on the line and I had a Knife, or a Belt, I'd definately use my Knife.

I wouldn't risk my life with a damn belt.

Don't tell me I'm giving a bad rep to the Pocket Knife community.

I'm with archieblue. I kinda get offended when people think I carry a knife in case of an altercation. The very last thing I would want to do is stab someone, in all honesty I'd rather run. If you really think that you need to carry something for self-defense, pepper-spray would be a better option. Although illegal here, I would carry an expandable baton, which I think would serve you better in a self defense situation.

BUT if you really want to carry a self defense knife, then anything you can depoly fast will do. Even a 2" blade can do some real damage, a Protech runt or Tantilla should do nicely here in Cali. Stay safe.

Speaking practically, the knife I would best know how to use is probably my D4 Wave. I can deploy it and have it ready in ice-pick grip in a split second.

If we're talking "if you could have any knife in the given situation," maybe something big like the Ti-Lite 6-inch.

I stopped carrying knives for self-defense about a year ago (I still carry a few for utility purposes) simply for the reason that there are more effective things I can carry for self-defense. Anywho, if I was going to carry a folder for self-defense, it would be my Gerber Parabellum in the locked open position in the factory sheath. No matter which folder I picked, I would carry it in the already-open position in a custom sheath if necessary. That is, if it absolutely HAD to be a folder.

that sounds like pure nonsense, yeah ok im so much danger that i need to stab someone to stop them, so ill just ignore the knife i have clipped to my pants, and waste valuable time looking around for something else....... uh yeah, please dont give out any self defense advice ever again, k thx.

I agree 100%.

I'm also saying a good knife that can be used in a SD situation, not JUST for SD.
