If you had to go to war, what is the one fixed blade and 1 folder you would take??

I would take a ZT150 double edged boot knife and a ZT0300. Ideally, I would leave the 0300 and take a Becker bk2. Yeah.

Fixed: BHK PLSK 2
Folder: Strider SMF / Emerson CQC / ZT

Truth be told I can't remember when I had a folder outside the wire. Always had a leatherman and later my folks sent me a MUT.

For those that dont know, your kit can't get pretty heavy especially on extended ops and if you get down to it, I'd rather carry an extra mag for my pistol than a folder.

Well I carry a Zt 0300 and Busse NMSFNO in Afghanistan. Not ideal but works for me.

I went through a case of those coffee drinks a week, always had at least 2 cases stashed under my bunk. still have the hatch gloves i wore over there, had to sew para cord loops on the back of mine so i could attach them to my carrier when i wasn't using them.
contemplating going back just to get them again:eek:

Forgot,
I kept it simple, mora in kydex, and a first gen endura(first trip) second same mora and a tenacious, always had a med stockman too, and a SOG multi tool.

I am on R&R from afghanistan and id have to say to all those who posted 6+ inch blades. They arent going to do you much good. Everyone on my team carries a fixed blade but in practical use they are just too big for both utility and combat. Unless you need a machete to cut through brush but its not a large problem in the stan.
3 out 5 of my team carry a variation of the Benchmade nimravus which is a great blade, Good size solid and sturdy.
I myself carry the SpartanBlade's Ares as my fixed blade and ill never need another one. It's a bit pricey but while deployed you dont want to fail due to gear integrity.
My folder is the Benchmade Contego, A great tactical folder. The small carbide glass breaker is a great touch and works surprisingly well.
I myself am not a big fan of ka-bar but, i know plenty of soldiers who disagree with me.

Funny, the things you think you will use a knife for in war, are rarely accurate. I took a KA-BAR USMC and a leatherman wave to Iraq... and about a half dozen others, but those are the only two that made it home. the rest were traded away for British rations. both were well used. the ka-bar built furniture, showers, etc, as we didn't have a hammer (2003). nobody I knew ever used a knife as a weapon, but that's not to say they weren't infinitely useful. Also depends on the theatre. In a jungle/woodland, I'd go with an ESEE 6, as I don't like the KA-BAR for bushcraft, but I'd still keep the multi tool, probably my SOG. and a SAK, I will never be without one.

i'd probably go with the Ka-bar USMC because why mess with whats worked so far in war and as for a folder i'd either go with my large cold steel voyager with clip point or a buck 110, depends on where i'm going and what we're doing

I didnt carry a knife in Iraq.

I didnt carry a knife in Afghanistan.

To paraphrase a buddy:"If it does'nt go bang, boom or can be eaten, we dont carry it."

Sums it up nicely IMO.

Been there 4 times and carried a Ka Bar fixed and Cold Steel Recon 1 all four times without any problems.

Ooh man, that black Mora is looking cool. Its like $35 and could easily fit in a cargo pocket diagonally in a cardboard cargo pocket organizer.

When I was in the Army, I carried the GI M9 Bayonet and a Gerber Gator. Now, I would be bringing in my KA-BAR Black Tanto (full size) and my CRKT M16-04Z. I like the tanto point.
