If you had to pick one knife to carry forever...

It would be a lefty Crk for me as well. I can narrow it down to a Pj 21 Insingo or micarta Inkosi drop point. Picking between those two is something I don’t think I could do just yet

I'm going to go way out in left field and pick a knife that I have never personally owned or carried. I've handled a bunch and always liked the size and feel but I've always leaned towards traditional patterns and simpler steels.

However one knife to last a lifetime pretty much kicks all SAK, trapper and stockman patterns out of the running simply because softer steels and back spring issues are going to catch up with you.

I love the Buck 110 and 112 but in all honesty dont see one holding up to 50 years of constant daily use without either breaking the tip or developing blade wobble. Even if not abused that amount of opening and closing would wear the brass liners enough to cause movement.

Assuming this is one knife for the rest of your life with no options to buy replacements anywhere down the line.

I'd pick a Spyderco Delica preferably one with a stainless handle

If you could only carry one knife for the rest of your days which would it be? I would pick the 940-1 currently.

It would have to be the Vic Adventurer (111mm). I replaced this knife as my regular carry after probably 15 years with a Small Tinker. But long term and only one knife (forever), it would have to be the larger 111mm Adventurer. I have enough of them to cover the "forever" part relative to my lifetime if I chose to.

since this is back from a long hibernation, I may as well chime in...

1 to carry forever would end up being my own design, 3v, leaf shaped but with some added utility, and probably a somewhat curved handle
honestly I'd lean on a tapered overall design but still end up with at least a 5" blade

really... looking at it, it wouldn't be far off from a kephart with extra belly & utility, and ofc the handle being more involved
would be very tempted to add 3" of actual proper wood saw serrations on the back

I like my EDC, a very tough Spyderco Gayle Bradley 1. I have carried it since it first was released for all sorts of jobs around the house, shop, and yard. Damn thing just does whatever job I need a pocket knife for. If you are unfamiliar with Gayle Bradley check out his clip.

I would be very unhappy !
But if I had to, God forbid, I would settle on a kind of machete : parang, golok, bolo, barong. They are basically big knives. They do well at chopping wood and clearing brush but hey, they can also downsize meat and vegetables for the soup.

I didn't buy my first modern folder until 2004. Before that I carried Barlows, scout knives, or stockman patterns. In fact, I carried my one stockman every single day for over 30 years. That knife wore holes in the pockets of many a pair of jeans. So I could get along just fine with one of those.

If I can still carry fixed blades in the field and we are only talking about folding knives for EDC then I choose my Rex45 Spyderco Military.

If it is the only knife I can carry at all then it would be my Bark River Wilderness Explorer. I spend too much time in the woods to live a folder only life.

Large Sebeneza
Though I could get by just fine and usually do with a very old Spyderco military in 440V.

Bottom one. What you don't see is it has my sons initials engraved in it. I've used my Cybertool just about daily for a few years now and recently upgraded to this one from a plain Jane. Custom work was performed by Robert Lessard.
