If you had to pick one knife to carry forever...

If I can only carry one knife for the rest of my life, it won't be one that's broken by design.

This one...

Wow Shorttime , that's one stout little knife !

Only one knife for the rest of my life ? That would make it a compromise of easy carry and durability . So although this is not the favorite knife I own , it would be my choice in this case . My BUSSE Combat Game Warden .

Good choice. But remember, a large knife can perform small tasks better than a small knife can perform large ones. ;)

All right. :D Of course, it's not the first time this question has been asked nor will it be the last. But I'm always fascinated at the selections some folks would make if they were truly faced with only being able to carry one piece of sharpened steel for the rest of their lives.

Maybe so , but I like to carry a knife with me all the time . If I can have only ONE knife for the rest of my life I wouldn't want to have to carry a big heavy knife all the time . Any folder will wear out over time . Especially if it's the only knife you have to use for everything . And carrying a big fixed blade into the bank , or hospital or many public places in more urban settings is NOT widely accepted .

My little Game Warden will fit in my pocket , has no moving parts that will wear out and the chances of breaking a piece of INFI steel that .170" thick and just under 7" long is HIGHLY unlikely . So short of loosing it I WOULD have a knife that would last my lifetime with me at all times .

It only referenced the knife; axes, saws etc. not considered.

one to carry forever doesn't imply that I cant have my others at home :D, so im gonna go with an Alox SAK of some sort...Farmer, Pioneer, or a Cadet.

If i could only have one knife forever? Probably a charles Marlowe badger balisong. Very usable blade shape, strongest lockup of any folder and fun to boot.

When these kinds of questions come up, I always try to consider the kinds of circumstances I might find myself in that would force me to choose one knife to carry for the rest of my life. And when I do that, who I might upset by carrying it is right at the bottom of my list.

If you think a 7" piece of INFI steel is enough to cover your cutting needs for the rest of your life, more power to you! :)
