If you had to pick one knife to carry forever...

Of the knives that I currently own I would have to say my Cold Steel Code 4. Its just such a perfect edc knife. After I got it back in 2013 I havent had any desire to carry anything else.

At the moment, it would be either my CRK Large Insingo or Brous Blades VR-71. I'll see if my choice changes in a few days on arrival of the 0801S110V :)

It is the only knife I always miss, doesn't matter what I carrying, part of me always wishes I was carrying my Umnumzaan.

While my first instinct is to choose one of my favorite folders, like my CF Insingo 21, or a fixed blade like my custom Ratmandu, I know that the smartest answer would be:

This Farmer would do everything I could need a knife for.

Most knives are simply too big or too small to be the only one. Most tasks are opening the mail, cutting fruit, boxes, the occasional skinning of an animal large or small, cutting threads for my wife, and all that needs to fit in a pocket with other junk. Based on that, I would choose either a Delica 4 FFG or a Benchmade 707. The Delica has a finer tip but the 707 is up to any task. Both are slim, light, and easily carried.

Seeing how I carry my Military almost everday anyway , usually paired with a smaller folder. I would choose it as my only knife. It will do anything I need a knife for.

"Two is one, and one is none." Or something like that, I can't remenber the exact saying.

A Bradford Guardian comes to mind, if I can only carry one.

If I can carry two ( which is only one really) then a small folder and my Benchmade 162.

Maybe my Kershaw Zing(US version) or Wenger SI for the folder.

It only referenced the knife; axes, saws etc. not considered.
I just realized that it also didn't include MultiTools. A well-made ~5" utility fixed-blade and a Swisstool or Leatherman would make for a pretty ideal "one knife to carry forever" combo IMO.

I would make my own knife. It would be made of wood, and have an extremely large hollow handle, inside of which I could store all of my other knives.:D would this count?

But seriously folks, if I could only carry one...

I guess it would probably be my Sebenza. A large 21. At least that's how I feel today.;)
