If you intend to buy, don`t post "mail sent" but post "I`ll take it"

How many times have you seen "mail sent" in the sale section and you`ve had no idea whether the guy bought the thing, asked a question or sent one of those disgusting lowball offers;)?

When I`m trying to snag an item I want to see clear indications whether it`s still available so when one intends to buy, post an honest "I`ll take it" and reserve "mail sent" for indicating that a question has been sent.

Sometimes people are considering buying several items here and on ebay at the same time and having a limited budget one needs to know whether he can proceed with his next knife/gear addiction fix or he is done for the day.Seeing "mail sent" is confusing to say the least.

When I see "mail sent" it's almost (99%) always a low-ball offer. Always.

I still don't get the trade offers in "For Sale" threads. It's in the "For Sale" section, not the "For Trade" section.

email sent.

Better yet, don't post anything in the thread...Email the guy directly, and if you end up buying the item, let the seller edit his thread to show that the item has sold. I hate it when I see 15 posts in one "for sale/for trade" thread, with the words "email sent", as it means very little, and takes up space.

I'm in agreement with the OP here."email or PM sent" does NOT trump "I'll take it"

Some people think they have "first dibs" because they wrote "email or PM sent".That's not the case in my FS threads. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Why do people use e-mail when we have a perfectly good p.m system available here ?
I don't always check my e-mail, but when I have something for sale, I always check the thread or watch for p.m's....
Its irritating when someone doesn't have their p.m's set up.
How about makin it a rule that you have to have your p.m's activated in order to buy or sell?

Agreed. First "I'll take it" should get it. I have been guilty of listing items stating that first to commit in thread or by p.m gets it.
I guess it would make it easier to state, "First to commit in the thread gets it... But then again, I've never ran into a problem buying or selling, doing it either way.

I have taken to put, "The first 'I'll take it' in this thread..." in my FS threads so as to try and eliminate the folks that just want to send a PM or e-mail and muddy the waters for everyone else who is looking. IMO, it does not need to be a big secret who bought something, so I ask people to clearly post an "I'll take it" in my thread so I don't have to reply to a bunch of questions asking if something is still available, would I be willing to take payments, etc., etc. Really, I found that just adding that little bit "in this thread" helps everyone out.

Yep, I've alway done the same Chris. Always put,,,first to put the "I'll take it" in this thread gets it... Then PM or email me. If you need to send a PM or email just do it, no need to post your going to do it:confused:

Sold a Case Toothpick here once and a person put the "I'll take it" in the thread. Another idiot never posted a thing but sent an email wanting to know if I would take $25 less. Told him I wouldn't, and the knife had sold anyway...and for the price listed. He then sent me ugly emails for days wanting to know why i didn't sell to him since his email was 10 min before the "I'll take It". Told him the "I'll take it" was clearly explained in thread, and I would have never took his offer. Had to finally tell him I was going to start a GBU thread with his emails attached if I got one more mail from him.

Common Sense!. I wish this was a rule.

Unfortunately, not everyone follows their email closely. With a PM, you get a notice in the upper right of the page here. With some people, you have to post "email sent" just to get them to look at it some time this week.

We don't want too many strictly enforced rules on using email or private messages. Registered Users don't get private messaging anyway, and we do want them buying and trading.

But it would be a courtesy to the rest of us interested buyers to post "I'll take it! Email on the way."

If I have a question for the seller I just pm or email them. Why post "pm sent?" All you are doing is bumping the thread and giving potential buyers a chance to snag the knife before you.

There is nothing more difinitive than, I'll take it in a post. As Glockman99 said email or PM the seller with any questions you may have about the item. If you are satisfied with the answers from the seller then make your post.

Gents, I may not look at BFC or the thread again until I am aware that there is activity, depending on what else is going on in my life. Since I have conducted about 99.8 percent of all my purchases in private via email or PM, I include in any sale effort that I need to be emailed over something.

I recall some ass trying to lecture me about how I was not following this "rule" about posting in the thread. I tore him a new cornhole over it, since I specifically had instructed folks to email me about this. Emails reach me immediately, whereas the thread is limited to BFC. I do not subscribe to threads, as I simply need a PM or email.

And frankly, I've had folks post "I will take it" followed by a whole mess of questions and conditions via PM or email. Some days I'd honestly rather throw a Benchmade away than sell it, given some of the asinine questions I've received about them, including the jerkoff who played 20 questions, then backed out.

I'm one step beyond JTR - a paypal payment is a hell of a lot more commitment in my book ;)

amen!!!

They don't bother me as a seller. Like someone else noted, free bump.

My threads all say the following: "First 'I'll take it' by PM, email, or post gets the knife." "Email sent" means nothing as far as pecking order unless that email contains a firm commitment to buy. If someone else posts "I'll take it," the knife is sold pending funds, as far as I'm concerned.

The only exception is when I actually do entertain an offer and send a counter-offer. At that point, in my mind, that potential buyer does get dibs since I extended an offer to him/her. In such a case, I will wait a reasonable time (a day or two) for an answer while letting other potential buyers know that a deal is in the works on the knife. I know that's not technically the letter of the law in terms of my original condition (First "I'll take it" gets the knife), but I don't like making someone an offer and then yanking the knife out from under that offer if another buyer comes along.

My knife. I can make up the rules as I go if I want to. :p

All the more reason for people to cough up a little coin and be a supporting member

+1:thumbup: Me Too!;):D

"Paypal Sent" will trump "I'll take it" everytime...

As a Canadian I always have to work out details such as shipping (and I'm more likely to buy multiples at a time from a single thread), so occasionally I'll post an "e-mail sent" to inform the seller. If he/she sells to another before communication is taken further then it was not meant to be.
