If you intend to buy, don`t post "mail sent" but post "I`ll take it"

I dont sell knives on the forum nor have I bought a knife (wanted to but am afraid of getting scammed out of money and end up buying new from online store). What I feel is right is the seller should have final say who gets the knife even if first "will take it " posts, it is of course their knife. What if the seller changes their mind after someone posts "willtake it", is the seller obligated to sell at that point?

Seller is the owner and can change his mind anytime, also the seller can refuse to sell to anyone for any reason.I have little problem with this and this occurs rarely because in this economic climat it`s very difficult to sell anything.People who post the vague "mail sent" usually don`t care about unintentionally confusing their fellow knifeknuts or they snag a good deal and think of reselling it later and don`t won`t people to know where and for how much$$ they got the knife.

perhaps i am in the minority here, but i don't have a problem with any post in one of my sales threads.

if a potential buyer has a question regarding the item, they can make a post, pm, email, or all three. i check emails on my blackberry, but rarely log on to bfc unless i am at an actual computer. even then, i don't always check my sales threads.

and with some members getting dinged for chatting, i can understand why they would want to pm/email a question rather than post in the thread.

i do, however, request that any buyer post "ill take it" in the thread if prior communication has been private. it provides a reference for itrader and/or feedback.

There's usually different ways of looking at it. In my F/S threads, I always post that "I'll take it" time stamp rule applies for email, PM, or post. Some others do while some don't.

That aside, I think most people want people to post "PM sent" or "email sent" in F/S & F/T threads. Whether we like it or not & even if those posts don't "do much", they do bump a thread. & of course, you'll usually see a post by the OP stating that they replied to the email or PM. It's all about bumping the thread whether we like it or not.

I'm not complaining, just explaining. The best thing to do is post "I'll take it" & see what happens. If you missed out, you missed out. If the OP stated that the first "I'll take it" gets it, then the person who posted that they sent an email or PM doesn't/shouldn't get it. Simple.

Like the Mods said, I don't anyone wants too many strict rules. However, I also understand where the OP's coming from & his frustration. I'm not sure there's a method that will please everyone, unfortunately.

as a buyer, I ignore them. If I want the knife, I will post I'll take it even if someone posts email/PM sent. Still gives me a shot at claiming dibs if the message was just a question, and maybe I can beat out a lowball offer before the seller accepts.

Unfortunately, not everyone follows their email closely. With a PM, you get a notice in the upper right of the page here. With some people, you have to post "email sent" just to get them to look at it some time this week.

We don't want too many strictly enforced rules on using email or private messages. Registered Users don't get private messaging anyway, and we do want them buying and trading.

But it would be a courtesy to the rest of us interested buyers to post "I'll take it! Email on the way."

When the 'email sent' was a lowball or uninteresting trade offer I've always felt the desire to post a 'still available' message immediately to let potential buyers know the knife was still available. I've been a little uncomfortable with that for fear of being perceived as improperly bumping my thread. What's the official position on that?

On a related note---those messages give you a free bump, but they may also lead buyers to think the knife has already sold. Wonder if it all evens out in the end?

I just don't understand- why is it too hard to ask if it is still available or just add "I'll take it if still available" or such comment to the thread? It can't hurt to ask.

4 days waiting. Sent 2 emails. Posted in the thread. No response. Person hasn't logged on since the "I'll take it" was posted.
I'm getting so tired of this crap.

Sometimes people are considering buying several items here and on ebay at the same time and having a limited budget one needs to know whether he can proceed with his next knife/gear addiction fix or he is done for the day.Seeing "mail sent" is confusing to say the least.

For what it's worth, I think that scenario of having several things one is interested in buying on a budget that can't support all of them is what leads folks to sometimes toss out the "mail sent" as way to try to stake a place in line. The problem is that they may do it on 2/3/4 things, get affirmative reply on all of them, and then they don't have the cash to cover it. That might lead them to lowball in hopes they don't go over budget, or they have to pick which of the items they really want enough to pay for at that moment.

I can understand not wanting to lose out on something by waiting, but if it leads to not being able to back up what was presented as an intent to buy because you've got too many irons in the fire then that's frustrating for the seller. I'm not implying you've done this, just saying that sometimes it may be people in the same general situation who are undertaking the behavior that irks you.
