If you only had $50 to buy a folder knife, what would you get (new or used)?

I might go with a Kershaw Blur (blem or used is okay, though I've seen new ones for around $50 at times). If I could manage to find a used S30V one, then even better (I've seen it but have never bitten). My first brand was Kershaw and I've never had a Blur which is one of their ubiquitous models. It seems like a nice size balance - big enough to get some larger work done but also small enough for some finer work (except for maybe detailed point work... its general shape looks more slicey than pokey or razor-like like the Leek is for example).

CRKT .. model would be whichever one in your price range fits your hand the best.

Spyderco Delica's on the exchange, at the usual price of around $45.00 in lnib/bnib conditions. I have also seen Kershaw Blur's at $46.00 on the big auction site.

I'd go to a flea market and pick up a nice old Schrade slipjoint. I love doing that.

Buck Vantage Avid (large)

$40

Sandvik Steel is good at this price range. It is a nice smooth opening flipper. I also like the Dymondwood handles. Also nice and light and the pocket clip sits pretty deep if you want the knife out of sight. To me, the Vantage line is the best budget EDC line on the market, though I like the Vantage Force Pro better for the upgrade in steel.

Endura 4 or griptilian if I could find one within that price range. Lightly used most likely.
I waited to buy a mini-grip for quite awhile watching for the best deal I could get, finally one came along lnib for $60 and I grabbed it quick, even since then I haven't seen one for less so yea if you can find one for <$50 absolutely buy it ASAP. The delica on the other hand is IMO the best knife that's over $50 new that you can easily find for under 50 LNIB.

A gray Ontario RAT 1 from Knifeworks.
I agree, if you specifically want a spyderco or you specifically want a benchmade then its not going to satisfy you but if you want pure performance/value- the best bang for your buck then save half that $50 and get a RAT-1 (or rat-2 if you want a slightly smaller 3" blade). For $25-30 you get a knife, that if it said "spyderco" or "benchmade" on the blade would easily cost tripple what the Ontario costs.

I got two new Gerber Paraframes....plain and a serrated edge for $50....been caryring them daily for more than 5 years...
