If you were to have to go into war what 3 folders would you take.

I'm new to this forum and as all of you I also share a passion for knives I would like some feedback on what three folders you would choose of any or the following makers. Add a brief description and picture. And keep it to 1 folder from each of the below 3 manufacturers. When choosing the knife keep in mind these would be if you were deployed with the military into hostile and dangerous oversees situations.

My choices are:

1. Spyderco - southard - personally love the ergos, smooth flipping action blade shape and seems very tough

2. ZT- 0550 - this folders action is pure butter. Build like a tank. And deploys like a rocket.

3. Benchmade - 275 Adamas - ok this would be my major carry in a war. Easy open and close with the Axis lock system. It's builds like a monster and will take am absolute beating.

I have all three and would use all three in a war. I love them all. Would like all the expert feed back. I will add my pics later and remember folders only no fixed blades, autos, balisongs, etc. thanks to all

Warzone? Folder?
how about an Italian folding bayonet.
Even folded it's still a usable knife.
I wonder if Ca law would treat it as a fixed knife which shouldn't be concealed or a folder which would be allowed to be concealed.

I like the Adamas as well. Tough beast and comfy grip.

Welcome!

Couple questions.

1) Why just those three manufacturers?
2) Do any of those three make a large fully automatic gun that holds a ton of bullets? That's what I would bring to a war.
3) Why no balisongs or autos? Those are folders.

1. BM Adamas. You could probably run that thing over with a tank
2. Buck 110. Easy to sharpen, classy, you could probably break glass with the brass handle if needed
3. Spyderco Native lightweight. I have not gotten my hands on it yet, but with S35VN. lightweight handles, and a price tag around $80 it looks great

If it bothers you, I'd switch out the buck for the ZT 560

I'll say Adamas.

On a tangentially related note, I've done some reading on military-oriented forums.

Soldiers, that is, regular Infantry, and tanks, carry whatever they can get at the base PX. The Benchmade Stryker is often mentioned.

From what I've seen, they favor multitools over knives, because they are already carrying eighty pounds of kit, or crammed into a small space in a metal vehicle, and a Leatherman offers multiple tools, for less weight.

The prevailing attitude among these groups is that knives are functional objects, meant to be used to cut, scrape, pry, turn screws, and whatever other tool they don't have handy that the knife/multitool can stand in for. When it breaks, they go to the PX, and buy another one.

That would have been my choice, maybe with a SAK Super Tinker and an Ontario Pilot Knife.

It's cool if you was to add any type of folder, just was looking to the typical type again I'm no expert. You can choose any brand. I would also rely on bullets as the my first line of defense, but I would also carry my knives.

I also love the Native. It's a great knife!!!

I would probably go with the ZT 0550, just because I really like it, and it's pretty beefy.
The Adamas would probably be ok, can't think of a Spyderco off the top of my head that I would go to war with.

For what it's worth, when I was in the military, in the field I carried a buck 110, and a SAK. When the leatherman first hit the market (it was that long ago) it replaced the SAK. Between those two, I had most of my bases covered, if my toolbox wasn't handy.

At one time, I thought that "the best knives are the ones the Military gets".

Imagine my surprise when I found out that there is no such thing as a "standard issue" knife, at least not for Infantry, and that the soldiers who do buy a knife tend to treat them very badly, by our standards.

True. I beat the ever lovin' heck out of my Buck 110, and it always just laughed it off, and was easy to sharpen.

From the 3 above mentioned mfg's I would go..
Spyderco Ti Military
ZT 0350 (de assisted)
BM Contego.
Cheers

Which 3 knives would I bring to a gunfight?
Nobody is going to care. Even a lightsabre wouldn't do very well.

Well, having been to a war, Republic Of Vietnam, 39th Combat Engineer Battalion, 1967-1968, I'd take the same kind of knife I carried for 12 months. A basic 4 blade scout pattern knife. Mine was an issue Camillus MIL-k. 818. Now I'd just take a alox SAK which is a nicer version of the same thing.

The army also gave us a bayonet for the M16 we carried, free of charge.

My third choice would be a backup SAK.

I'm with you on the Alox SAK. I love the utility options. I edc mine every day no matter what othe folder I hav on me. Alox SAK always rolls with me!!!:thumbup:

I was infantry. I carried a D/A Socom in Iraq. If I were going to war now... I'd choose one of my DDR customs.

I'd get three of the same do-it-all Leatherman multitool. Shit breaks and I would need a spare and a failsafe.

Love the Buck 110 that was one of the first knive I ever owned had about 10 at one time, but sold them off. Was looking into one a while back, but went with the Buck Vantage Pro with the BOS treated S30V instead. Great value for the price point on that one.

That's because the Army is too busy issuing M16s, M4s, and M9s. HOOAH!

I'd love to hear about how your Socom performed in that environment and for the tasks you were doing, if you would like to share.
