I'm back, finally. But prayers are needed desperately!

Yvsa,
I'm so very sorry to hear about your grand-daughter :( . It's really tough to hear about anyone who's that ill, but more so when it's a child. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family. I truely hope everything works out okay.

It is true that they will not give blood directly from Jessica's father to her unless it was banked well ahead of time, tested, etc.. However, if he and Stella have to pay for the blood Jessica gets, any donation made *in her name* will be credited towards her needs. Blood is terribly expensive. Even if she isn't the same blood type as me, for example, she'd get one pint of her type. The key is finding out if the hospital is linked to the national blood doner network, and the hospital administrator can answer that question. If Stella bugs them, they can look up Blood Assurance with the number I gave you and find out. Ditto for anyone else willing, via Red Cross, local blood banks, etc.

What Stella could also find out is the name and number of whoever handles the blood supply at Jessica's hospital and I could even figure it out from here. I'd also need Jessica's full name, the hospital number, and so on. By tomorrow morning would be nice. If you want to go to email, you have my address and if you want to send me info, that would be fine. Even if Stella doesn't know how to deal with this, at least get me the hospital info so I can investigate it from here.

If her needs are already met and nothing is needed, well, that would be good news too... Meantime, a chapped ear for the Almighty about Jessica!

Adding your grandaughter to my daily prayers. She's the same age as my daughter. She should be out having fun, not in the hospital!

Yvsa, I'm sorry this had to be your first message back. Your granddaughter and the rest of your family will be in my thoughts.

Pappy, sorry to hear about your daughter. She will be in my thoughts, as will your family.

Smoke going up now.

If you guys can get the Blood donation thing figured out, I'll earmark some. I'm scheduled to go into a red cross drive on the 25th to give blood.

Sorry to hear of more trials for you!:(
They say thatwe are only given as much as we can stand; you must have broad shoulders!
I have a young daughter (mercifully healthy) and can only imagine the depth of your pain and frustration - our prayers are with your family.

for you and yours. Stay strong. But remember that you don't have to be strong 24/7. Namaste, my brother.

Yvsa, I'm so sorry to hear about your grand-daughter having Chron's. I know what that disease is like because I have it. I've been dealing with it for 26 years (since I was 16). The summer of my senior year in high school I went from 155 down to 98. The worst part was not knowing what was wrong with me. Once she is past the worst of this flare (and I do believe they will get her past this) make sure she has all the information she can get on this disease.
This is a "quality of life" type disease. It can make life miserable at times but it rarely kills. They are coming up with more drugs to fight the symptoms. Prednisone is a powerfull drug...it also has some nasty side effects. The side effects might be why they are slow to jump in with that powerfull of a drug. They also might try Remicade. That's one of the newest drugs they have in thier arsenal. It's given via I.V. Within 3 days I could tell a major difference in how I was doing. It is expensive tho. Pentasa and Dipentum might also be used.
If you or your grand-daughter have any questions feel free to ask.
Seriously, the more info you have the easier it is to deal with.

Your grand-daughter's good health is in my heart and wishes...

Yvsa,

I seem to recall from my reading that Crohn's disease has been treated with low carb diets. At least one of the low carb books I was reading a few years ago claimed Crohn's disease, like diabetes and heart disease, was one of the modern diseases caused by our eating habits.

A search of "Crohn's disease" and "low carb" turned up a lot of links on the web. Unfortunately I don't have time to explore them in depth.

This may tie into the eating styles that caused you (and many of the rest of us)health problems. You seem to have found a personal solution and maybe your experiences would be of value to other family members.

Nothing new to report. My daughter and me have been playing phone tag for two days now.
I will try to get ahold of her again in the morning.
Thanks for all the good wishes and the generous offer to give blood.
Right now, needless to say, my daughter isn't functioning as well as she normally does and she might not be putting the importance of this in the proper priority.

Jsessica does seem to be in good spirits and complains about not getting any "real food."
None of these kids have ever missed a meal and they eat like normal teenagers and then some.
Jessica isn't aware of how serious this flare is either, but with her heart problems in the past nothing much realy seems to get to her. She makes her ol' grandpa proud in more ways than one.
Jessica is the Flute player in the family, the boys seem to have lost interest.

Been out of the loop for a while, Yvsa. Rest assured that prayers are coming from my family also. I sincerely hope that things work out well. Hang in there!
