Spyderco I'm dumping my Para 2, am I crazy?

Lately in the woods I've been carrying an Ontario HuntPlus drop point, an older Delica vg-10, and a Leatherman Wave. The HuntPlus is phenomenal for the money, but that is the subject of another thread. I would really like to trade my PM2 for a Proper or a Para 3 maybe.

The PM2 is wildly popular, but I wouldn't call you crazy to get rid of yours. I'd rather carry an Endura in ZDP-189 than a PM2.

I agree with this. It's a popular piece, but certainly not for everyone. I couldn't get into it myself, either.

The Endura is a phenomenal piece, and Spyderco does ZDP-189 like nobody's business. Give it a try.

There's somebody out there right now who would love to buy your knife from you, so if you want to get rid of it you aren't going to have any difficulty.

It doesn't help that the color pattern that I chose at the time is no longer appealing to me. I have the black s30v with digi-camo g10 version.
I'm not that into S30V . . . however . . . . ha, ha, ha I had decided that the next Para2 that I buy is going to be THAT knife (unless they ever offer that handle with M4). I think it is a super classic version of that knife and has quite a presence. It isn't me but I could just relax and carry it and beat it and really use the DLC blade coating and live with the scratches and really enjoy the knife.
(I can't stand the thought of scratching my black blade / black handle Para2 so it sits in "the safe" (a drawer with a tray of knives in it).

If I had the money right now I would offer to buy it and risk rejection for all time from the club house . . . well . . . maybe not ALL THAT . . . but that's my take.

You should own and enjoy what you like though.

Now that is a good point. I hope I never have to choose between one or the other.
IF the Endura had the compression lock I would go Endura for sure. Handle wise.
. . . although . . . the Endura is a little long for some work with the point
= why I carry the ZDP-189 Dragonfly when I carry the Endura.
Ahhh . . . I love the "problems" of being a knife hobbyist.

generally for EDC, I carry a blade of 3 inches or so, or a smaller multi tool like my older Leatherman juices. So the para 2 doesn't quite fit anywhere
See, every day at work I have use for the Para2 length and the Endura length is even better for what I need to cut. 110 length is good 710 length is even better. Then again in the same day I often need a shorter knife and grab one from another pocket or belt pouch. The Para2 length can squeak through both blade length needs and so for me it is perfect length wise for one knife carry and with M4 I find I can not leave it at home. and . . . the compression lock is fun to have along . . .over a back lock which is just work to use . . . but I'm OK with that for the trade off of the Endura handle.

. . . in other words I am being absolutely no help and will now go make some coffee.
:D

I'm getting rid of it. It is a great knife, however it does not as previously stated, fit into my system

I don't have the original box or instructions as if you need them haha, does that crush me?
Heck no not for some one buying the knife to USE IT.
I assume it is no longer mint looking anyway. If it is mint then you loose some $ without the box.

OK . . . Zowie . . . got some coffee !

Slippies. YES !
You are going to have a great time with those for the city environment you sheppard.

. . . although . . .
This person makes a point for the Para
I lost it on a camping / crabbing trip. Man I wish I had pictures of that knife.

That pocket clip. Easy to loose a loose knife in a pocket. I change clothes a few times a day for work or riding to work besides just getting dressed. A belt pouch keeps track of my clip less knives but is a PITA. Clips are sooooo handy.

As far as slippies I carry Trappers all the time in a pouch so I love the non locking dudes for sure.

Also, I work in urban environments for work, but I try to stay as far away from it as I can off hours.

This is a "Me Too" knife..:p John:)
That's a new one. From my experience here. I think I just got called a "Sheeple" for carrying a Para2.
Ha, ha, ha, ah, ha, ha

No but seriously I carry it BECAUSE it works so well for me.
For example :
  • I HATE flat sided, non sculpted, handles.
  • I don't need a wide blade like the Para2 and prefer a long skinny blade like a Ti Lite IV
  • I find the compression lock limited when my fingers are taped up; the axis lock on the 940 works a fair amount better for this (the Manix lock is too firm and blade is even wider )
  • I prefer a handle that is less wide again more like the Ti Lite or Endura
  • I have no use for a laniard tube (though I want one on most of my knives . . . I don't know why but is an option if I ever find myself in a flood)(I have seen water shooting vertically out of at least one man hole here during out of control run off so that is a possibility here).
And yet what is my number one favorite knife since I bought it ? Is it my 940-1 ? Is it my 710 M390? Is it my Ritter Griptillian in M390? . . . all more toward my liking and away from my list of negatives above.
No
It is my Para2 in M4 ! ! !
it just all comes together and works VERY WELL for me. IN USE.

Make this Cold Steel Ti Lite IV bellow lighter, install M4 (though the XHP is pretty darned great), add a light axis lock, make the handle textured like the Para or Griptillian . . .
and I might leave the Para2 M4 at home a little more . . . until that day :

Baaaaahhhhhwwww, Baaaaahhhhhwwww

I'm an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman and own a small collection of knives compared to what I see on here-- maybe 40 knives of varying types. I have what I like to think of as a working collection. Pretty much all of my knives see regular use, whether it is in an EDC role or a hunting or fishing knife. I've owned my Spyderco Paramilitary 2 for some time and have found that it is simply too big for me for everyday carry. It is a fantastic knife, just not for me I guess. Do you guys think that I should part with it or hold on to it? It doesn't help that the color pattern that I chose at the time is no longer appealing to me. I have the black s30v with digi-camo g10 version.
In a word, yes, and I can send you my address if you want to send the PM2 to me :D

I have to admit, 2017 saw me buy my first and only Spyderco, and it is an ubiquitous PM2, in S30V and black G10.

I have always found Spydercos fugly in the extreme. But I always wanted to see what the fuss was about, as well.

It seems there is a reason for the Spyderco enthusiasm, although one does have to reposition one’s index finger when closing that excellent knife. I find myself reaching for that fugly knife surprisingly often.

OP - can I haz ur stuffz? ;)

I’d dump it. Super ez to pick up again and sell on the forums all the time in brand new condition. Heck, I have sold at least 10 of em myself here.

I am a full blown Spyderco junkie and I am not on the Para2 bandwagon. Not sure why. I used to be. I still carry one from time to time but not often. It isn't the size as I carry a Military most days. You just like what you like so no you are not crazy for not liking it.

The only contrary advice I will give us that over time my tastes and preferences have changed and evolved and then changed and devolved. I have fallen out of love with a model only to rediscover it again later. It is up to you if you want to sell it or if you want to shelve it and see if you might appreciate it more at a later date. That is what I do but I am a knife hoarder.
