I'm in pain...

What the hell. How can turkey be part of eastern Europe, west Asia, and the middle east all at once?

and I'm speaking geographically here, your not allowed to disown being middle eastern simply because your not Muslim. that would make me not North American because I'm not christian.

You are upset I guess, why? To call a a Muslim country a European country is really making you crazy?! Here that was the notion I was talking about why people labels us middle eastern country. Some also see us as an Arabian country :barf:

I don't care about what others think about, but I know why people thinks Turkey is a middle eastern or even an arabian country, I was talking about the notion not the geographical position. Yes geographically Turkey is "a part of eastern Europe, west Asia, and the middle east all at once". You may be surprised but true. Istanbul is selected as 2010 "European Capital of Culture" : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Capital_of_Culture

Is Turkey a European country? I couldn't care less? This is a question couldn't be answered for ages. Here is an article you might be interested: http://www.todayszaman.com/tz-web/detaylar.do?load=detay&link=13153.

Man Emre, I really feel for you; this just sucks. I know in the same position I'd be so upset I wouldn't be able to do anything else either. I don't have anything to add that hasn't already been said, so I'll just pile my sympathy on with everyone else's. Hang in there, eventually these things work out.

You may have to keep pressing the bank though. I'm not sure how international banking law works but here in the US, credit card companies are highly regulated and with the right phrases, like "banking commission" and "attorney general," things can start to happen. But you may not have these agencies. Where is the bank located that you're dealing with? Local law will have jurisdiction. If it's a US bank (HSBC sounds familiar), try taking your claim to a US office, if you haven't already.

Your phone bill must be costing a small fortune in itself. I wish I could help in some way.

Thanks Dave for your sympathy , that was the only thing I needed. The bank is a local branch of a European Bank. I'm going to their main office in town to sit and talk about the problem. I hope we'll be able to release the money there. ..

Very interesting article, Emre. Like many Americans, I'm quite ignorant of the lives of people in the rest of the world, of its politics. All I could have told you about Turkey is that Iraq fears and distrusts it, and that it's a center of Aurignacian* archeology. If nothing else the article convinced me that Turkey certainly should be accepted into the EU, if for no other reason (in my mind) than helping to show the mideastern world that secularism has its benefits. :)

Although now I'm having second thoughts whether membership in the EU would be a benefit.

* The Aurignacians were the anatomically modern humans who first began displacing the Neandertals in western Europe about 37,000 years ago.

Emre, my wife is a history nut, especially European history. I took her that article and told her a bit about you and this discussion. She said, "You should invite him over for Thanksgiving!" I said, "He lives in Turkey, honey." Jeanie said, "Oh. Well, you should invite him anyway!" :D So here's your invitation. Come on over next week and we'll share an American feast of ... you guessed it - turkey ... and ham and cheesecake and a dose good political argument. :D

Actually, that's only part joking. We'd be honored to be your host any time. We could make a bunch of steel dust in my basement, and send you home with a suitcase full of D2!

:D I wasn't aware of Aurignacians, thanks Dave, archaeologist part of me really interested is this issue. Please extend my gratitudes to Jeanie please, I have flight phobia that I couldn't overcome, but I'll be honored to have you and your family here...

I'll second that :thumbup::D

Emre, I printed this thread to show to my wife. (She doesn't use computers.) She was reading it when I took your last reply to her. She said, "Don't interrupt me, this is like a spy novel!" :D

Whew politics, it is frustrating to live here, everything is wavy in this region thanks to Mr. Bush and Mr. Sarcozy our stability is shaking with the muslim label printed on our head... The phobia of Islamic terror, thanks to god damn Usame Bin Laden and their slaves, has put us to great trouble.... Enough of this :barf:...

Dave, don't let her to dive into this subject, it is deep man :D .
Will, may be I'll do that if some money left from my supply madness :p...

Good news BTW, the Sweden Nordellknives has replied  and they have almost everything in stock now computing the order total $ I guess . My D2 is on the way also...

I'm guessing the problem with shipping to Turkey is probably also customs! I sent a package to Greece and it sat in customs for about a month!

I just saw this and thought I should say something.

Emre has been very patient in this deal. My merchant credit card account at my supply site does not accept international credit cards. Most times these charges are declined and I get an email asking what's up? I point these customers to use paypal when checking out and it all goes fine after that. I have seen an issue once before with an international declined charge. The bank takes the money from the card holder even if the charge was declined. It then sits in limbo for what ever reason until the card holder finally gets a hold of someone that gives a damn and fixes the account. I'm trying to help Emre with all the (limited) data I can but it's not a good situation. I can understand his pain very well. I hope we can get this resolved soon.

Emre, That is a great article on Turkey, Europe and the muslim connection to the issue of acceptance into the Euopean Union...

Some of you guys might know this, but I (and I'm sure I'm unique :D) have a handle material fetish. Everywhere I go, I'm looking for handle materials...

So I've been checking out the Nordel Knives supply link Emre gave above, and wow, they have some stuff I hadn't seen before. Not sure I would order from Sweden any time soon, but I sure am tempted.

Check this out. Use the handle material link in the left navigation, then select "Cat Camo" from the first page. I think they must be polyester, which ain't cool really, but I dig the pattens and colors so much maybe I could make an exception -- just this once. ;)

Nordel Knives

Even better, Tracy maybe you could use some of your copious leisure time to track this stuff down - even if it is polyester - and have some available for me whenever I feel froggy. :D They also have some nice hardwoods we don't see too often.

I did a quick conversion, 120 Swedish Kroner is about $15 (this morning).

It is real real cheap for me. I've ordered a huge bunch of material, including PM grade steel, leather working tools, rivets etc. Everything summed up to only 740 $ shipping and taxes incl. Monday my supply will be on the road :D
They accept the payment by credit card. You just send the exp date and card number with your signature by fax. Thats all...

Fine people to deal, really helpful guys indeed. I've sent the item numbers I'm interested and the quantities. They replied back immediately which of them are out of stock and recommendations of alternatives. I've replaced the order, and sent the fax. Thats all, I've never been that happy quite a while.....

Thanks guys for your support. BTW this place is a very promising for their steel selection and prices. Some are real cheap compared to their USA alternatives. The steel is from Uddeholm FYI...

Take care

Dave that "cat camo" stuff is looking good. Here is an example:

An example of the steel prices:

RWL-34 is a PM grade copy of CPM154. There, the price of a ~3 ft of 1.6" X 0.2" stock is ~$81 . Isn't that cheap ?

Hi Emre..... It was a pleasure working with you on the stabilized amboyna and rosewood burl wood order. You are a positive, decisive person and knowing what you want/need made it fun. Glad the rest of your shopping experience has smoothed out..cheers...Larry Davis

Try ordering from Germany, there are many many Turkish people here.
Almanyada çok Türk var! Yarum yil türkçe ögreniyorum.
I still have a long way to go... but Turkish is really an interesting language.

I'm searching online shops around the world, I couldn't find any in Germany, though there would be lots of good steel companies but they all in German (I forgot that language, I had some courses on German when I was a kid). Search continues though...

Oh Turkish is a very flexible language but also one of the most difficult languages in the world to learn I suppose.
