"I'm not responsible once the package leaves my hands"

I personally have a very simple philosophy when it comes to selling anything. "if your not happy, I'm not happy". Simple, straightforward no if ands or buts. I've been a member here at BF for over 10 years. I've bought and sold lots and lots of knives and other things. I can truthfully say I've only got burned one time and luckily that was for a $35 knife. No big deal. I sucked it up and moved on. I do realize it's a different story when you're dealing with knives that cost hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars.

Oh, and I agree with getting burned out on all the caveats and disclaimers that are starting to show up in the for sale threads.
"must be 18" , "add 4% if this or that, "I reserve the right on who I sell too" (don't you always have that right? nobody forces you sell to anybody)

My gosh it's like a bunch of lawyers are starting to sell knives. What's next. We'll have to submit a DNA sample to qualify to buy a knife.

I do agree with the previous poster. When I read all that BS I just pass it on by and buy from a less paranoid individual.

Just my 2 cents guy. I'll get off my soapbox now.:D

You were on my soapbox, too! I have not been here for 10+ years but I have been selling on eBay for well over 10 years now (over 1,500 positive feedback) and I have always said a deal is not done until all sides are happy. It had bitten me a couple of times, like a "fake Kershaw" that was in no way fake but it was $80 and PP would have given them a refund anyway so I paid for return shipping to be sure that I at least got my knife back.

It is much easier in the long run to just do the right thing.

And the fastest way to get me to move on is to ask for additional funds for PP fees, it is not that hard to include them in your price.

Makes sense.
Then it wasn't too smart of me to pay extra once to get insurance which the seller didn't offer at first.

You paid for then to cover their own rear . As long as you use a service like paypal and don't try to skip out on the fees by using the gift option as a buyer paypal had you covered (whole other thread on paypal siding with buyer)

If I get it for everything regardless of value I have a better chance of ensuring it gets to the right person.

Don't count on it. Unless you pay for restricted delivery, anyone can sign for the package. There have been several threads here and on other forums where the package was deivered to the wrong person. Someone signed for it and USPS is happy. On top of that, I have several times paid for signature required and the package was just left on the front porch.

As Esav said, the only way you are 100% protected is to send it registered mail and even then, who knows?

Who knows? If the delivering carrier fails to get a verifiable signature, that carrier will end up reimbursing the sender. I've seen it happen. USPS paid the claim, then took it out of his pay, paycheck by paycheck.

There have been quite a few ads lately clearly stating the seller is not responsible once he ships the item. Not sure how anyone can justify that........but I just move on......also move on when additional % up to 7% for fees are demanded.
No thanks!

This could happen . My mail carrier has been on my route for as long as I can rememberand for as long as I've been getting mail. Now he's a good guy so what I'm about to type is the mailman doing me a favor but take it how you will.

I get a lot of packages . Mailman knows me like I said ,he knows crazy hours I work etc . Knows I have a 2 year old running around the house and wife my not can make it to the mailbox when she sees him. Several times I have packages that require a sig in my mailbox . Most of the time sig required packages are sitting between my screen door and my front door. Curious I asked the mailman how he could do that without getting into trouble . He replied he signed it for me. Inwas kind of taken back but I appreciate the fact I always get my packages so no complaints on my end. Again this is the same mailman in a small town and been the same mail guy for the last 20 years at least

Same thing goes on with my mail dude! Been with me for 15 years and does this for me all the time.
I know Esav will get mad at us, but I really appreciate it and throw him a few bucks when he does it for me!

Yea it's a small town . Nobody trying to get over on anybody or anything like that I look at it like he's helping the wife out instead of her running down the driveway with a screaming kid in her arms he just tries to make things a little easier . No bad intent at all on his part . Old house was number 3 on his route new house Is the last on the route. He's really nice though if he sees a package with my name on it hell break his route snd swing by the house .

Same thing with mine!! We usually get mail around 4:30.....no one home! He'll call me and I'll meet him along his route to get the package at around 9:30!
Couple of times packages were left on my porch and grew legs too.
