I'm Tired Of Technology, Make Mine On An Anvil

The OP's certitude about right and wrong is not a topic relevant to General Knife Discussion.
We can either keep this one about knives, or it can be locked or moved elsewhere.

I vote it get locked. There's nothing else to see here, just the OP trying to tell us he is right and we are wrong.

I voted he was just playing with us and it would be more fun to play in w&c -

Like many threads on bladeforums the answer is "both."

"Sebenza" would also be an acceptable answer.

That said, any knife made on an anvil is awesome. Finished on a manual power stone wheel adds serious bonus points. To take it to the max, if the metal is smelted from local ore, then that is some seriously awesome stuff.

As a side note, I do want a work hardened bronze knife.

Do we really need 58 hardness? What about flexibility? Do we really need brittle, brittle stainless steel that snaps like glass?

Brittle stainless steel that snaps like glass ? Have you ever used a knife ? And not just for cutting paper or your lunch. It takes a LOT to destroy a knife, even if you desperately try. I had a cheap Böker Magnum knife that I didn't like, and tried to destroy it. The beating that 13€ knife took was more than I would ever realisticly expect from a folding knife. Any folding knife.

There are a lot of modern, stainless production knives I'd put up against ANY medieval knife. Modern steel technology has come so far, it ain't even funny.
Even simple steels like 1095 or 5160 are available nowadays in a quality and consistency you couldn't even imagine 100 years ago. Let alone 500 years ago.
So you are either really clueless or a pretty bad troll. I guess the latter. 2/10

Pfffft...... Bronze is for new age hipsters; bone knives are old timey and for the real purists.;):D:thumbup:

If any of us ever saw someone pull out a bone bladed knife to open a package, lets be real, that would deserve a moment of instant respect.

Flint knapped or bone... I'd be talking to the person immediately.

Wait, you think he was serious? After the original post, which was a rant, of course, he was joking about always being right, right? Oh, well. Some cool pics came out of it.

I'm just saying I'm mostly right, even when I'm a LITTLE wrong (hardly ever). Except when I change my opinion, than I'm just better informed. Even then, I'm mostly right. When I'm wrong, I'm often wrong with a purpose. That ends up proving how right I was, by making people realize that even though they were right, I was right also, but in a different way. I just expanded their understanding of right.

Do you see now?

By the way, pry up a manhole cover with this little stainless steel beauty... Watch what happens... My guess is the tip will snap off, but it can sure hold an edge while it's breaking.

But, who's on FIRST!

I love all kinds of knives in a lot of different steels, but I do say I like my stainless, never had one break or chip in over 25 years of owning them, then again I use a knife for things a knife should be used for. I do like a forged blade though, hence my username, but pretty much something I like in nearly every blade type and style.

The problem I have with a lot of the forged blades made today are that they're left rough. 100 years ago forge marks like yours would have been a sign of a bad smith. Today it's somehow a sign of quality? All polished up and there's really no difference between a forged and a machined knife. Your romanticism just isn't my thing even though I own a forged blade that I love. I love it because it's just a good knife.

Lock the thread? Its got some annoying parts, but is it that bad?

+1 on jacknife's post.

I mean, if we take this all the way isn't ANY knife cutting edge technology?

Can't use knives at all if your a TRUE purist.

Edit: oh yeah, while I don't really agree w OP I still appreciate the perspective and passion they have on the subject lol.
