I'mGatMan! You Owe Me Money Porker!

I don't have access to photobucket at work, but I will take some pics of the inside right now with the iPhone and see if one of the kids has back-channel web access. I DO have some wizzes...

ETA:

I have two pics for you guys. One of the inside of the bag, with space to spare...and one hanging off a student with a similar height/build to my own. I just need to find a way to post from here.

Dark, if you ever get a pic of someone wearing that bag, I'm trying to tell how big the XL looks on a person. Thanks

No prob...I'll be work a co-worker tomorrow evening and I can get him to model it. Not sure of his dimensions but I'll find out and post along with the bag.

Sounds like I'mGatMan! may be able to get you something sooner too....

Keep in mind something I found out. The x-large sounds impressively big, but in fact the internal "usable" space is a bit smaller. with the 18" width, you really only have about 16" of usable space. I imagine once the bag wears in over a few months or a year that will go closer to the 18". However for the time being from the heavy duty stitching on the sides of the compartment it bows in the leather to create that differential.

I bought a new 17" laptop sleeve and had to return it because until the bag wears in I don't have 17" horizontally inside.

I would imagine the same type of occurrence will will be seen with the size large but reduced overall....though it could be unique to each bag for all I know.

DN...send me your email addy and I'll forward you some pics to host/post. Can't get behind the wall here.

OK, Jason has the large (16") size. Here's the inside:

And here's someone wearing the bag. Dimensions of the person Gat?
I'd still like to see someone wearing Dark's XL bag, though.

As you can see I've removed the other two straps since I don't really need it to be that secure. Not only is it the greatest bag I've ever owned...it's the best-made bag I've ever seen...and I looked a LOT before deciding on this one.

Btw...thanks for hosting/posting, George.

ETA: One should not that my bag is only about half-full. There is PLENTY of space still available in both compartments. At times I have added my 12" powerbook, a journal, and a binder to the load you see in there now. Not mention a GPS, iphone, ipod, keys, etc...

The listed weights of the larger briefcases sound pretty heavy. How do you think it will carry if you were cruising around town all day or traveling with it full of edc, rain jacket, laptop type of load?

I am hooked

Yeah, picking a single color will be FAR tougher than the decision to buy. I am WAY past that LOL. All of the colors look awesome but trying to imagine how they will look with a patina is another thing. Of course in this community the answer will be to get several. I love you guys :D

Dunner...if you look through ALL the links on the site you'll see pics of the bags after various periods of use. The Red and Black bags are made of leather with a harder hide-like texture. The Coffee and Tobacco finishes are more natural, unfinished leather, and the different textures will age differently. My Tobacco bag actually almost feels like the inside of a holster...it has a bit of nap to it. The red and black are textured like the seat of a Harley would be.

Give me until Tuesday evening and I can have some experience to share. This week is a hop to Richmond which will have very little "hard" carrying time since I'll be in trains and cars.

Monday I've got New York which will be a promising hard carry trial fully loaded. After I get to Penn station I usually walk the 10 blocks to my usual hotel, and then it's about a five block walk from the hotel to client site. i won't have a suitecase next week for piggyback hauling so it will be all shoulder carry for the walks.

man i love those bags, but i love those backpacks. especially where i go those backpacks will work perfectly. now i have to convince the wife. with a price tag of $430 it may be a while haha. especially since i have a AeroLeather jacket on the way.

Nice. Can't wait to read your review!

His FAQ is pretty hilarious. Read the one about what the bags cost HIM to produce LOL.

One thing he says is the Dark Coffee and Black are have higher levels of water resistance than the others which might be nice here in rainland (Portland, Oregon). It sounds like they all resist absorption really well though especially when treated with mink oil. Hmmmm....

Dunner...did you see the pic of the bag and the coat on the back of a motorcycle? That's a great idea of what they look like after being really used...like some of us do our Busses. :D

As for weight...they are NOT light bags, and quite frankly they will be heavy when loaded. However, I put up with the weight in order to have the quality. I, too, am anxious to read DN's review after NYC, however.

I think quality like that is going to come with a few extra lbs for sure and agree it's worth it. The way I have been loading my nylon bags makes them damned heavy LOL. Just trying to imagine another 5 lbs on a long walk about town. The only solution is to start working out more so I can really enjoy the finer things LOL.

Actually, I believe it's the Dark Coffee Chestnut, but it's been a while since I read through. Those are the two with the shinier finishes, I believe.

Does the XL (Dark's) have more inside pockets than the Large (Gat's)? If both of you can tell me how many pockets your bag has, I could compare. Thanks

My bag has 4 inside pockets, one on each side, and the big back pocket, and I believe that's the same for all. You can't see mine because of the angle from which I snapped the shot.
