That's a sweet knife and I love that you bought it with the specific intention of using it. Thanks for the review.

Yes becuase i thought im gonna give em a try but researched a bit etc and found out that the company is bad and that coupled with my experience from sharpening them equals that i dont want to have anything with that company too do

Why don't you stop looking in every Bark River thread and finding a way to bash the company. As the saying goes "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" so shut the hell up. Not only that you're coming across as a fool as shown by rcb2000 & RevDevil. Fine we get it, you don't like Bark River due to rumors of chipping & bad customer service. Instead of derailing some other members thread have some courtesy and go make your own thread instead of derailing this one.

vmmvmm - very nice looking Golok. I got to use one of the earlier versions a buddy had and I came away impressed with it. Same as you I prefer the look of the new one with a more pointed tip. It chopped really well for how compact & light it was, and carried better on a pack because of it. I suck at sharpening convex edges so can't offer any advice on that. I believe KSF has a video on their site showing how, but there's probably also quite a bit to reference on this forum too. Enjoy your new tree-beater.

Took some time to clean the blade with some acetone, and here's how it looks a bit cleaned up after work:

Going to have to figure out how to hone the edge a bit. Even though

Didn't think it would do that if I kept it out of the rocks, but maybe I just worked it really hard.

Overall, I'd say I really like the knife. The handle is a bit bigger than I think is ideal for me, but it's a large knife and allows for a couple of ways to hold on tight. I wish I had a sheath to put it away in now that I'm done, but I'm sure that will come along in good time. It's pretty, and it felt manly hacking away at things rather than holding a power tool and making a mess. I like it, I just need to figure out how to get the edge back in shape for the next time I need to use it.

It's a beautiful knife. What's the grind on the blade?

Just looked in KSF, I think it's called Burgundy canvas

This is actually Maroon Linen, but they offer both. I've always been drawn to this material, for some reason. I love that they offer so many materials.

This conversation has been interesting. I don't mind the derailment one bit, it gives me a chance to also say that I love BRK knives and have owned many. Usually get them through KSF, so customer service is never an issue. I used the knife quite heavily, and given that it came ridiculously sharp for such a large blade, not to mention a factory edge, the very small chips are not that big of a deal to me. Made all the work I had to do very easy and pleasant. I'm going to enjoy this knife for a very long time, such a great tool.

Bark river certainly makes beautiful knives. I think they have done a good job training their employees on overheating the blades while sharpening. Although I still don't agree on how they manufacturer them. I realized that they are a production company and that they don't have the time to grind knives at a slow rate like what custom knife maker does.

Having said all that, I still would like to see more consistent grinds and from bark river. Fallkniven does convex edge and it's done overseas and they actually produce consistent even grinds. Unlike "made in U.S.A" bark river knives.

Ah maroon linen,,, I'll keep that in mind.
Thanks again for the pics and review!

Ive stated facts they chip to easy. They cant be sharpend to as fines as a edge as other knifes either cause they are inconstitent in their grain size and often micro or worse get big chips from nothing.

Why i asked about the company and layer researched on my own os that i have never used them just sharpend them. And never know of the clients i have sharpend for have ruined them thereself,

So not bashing just stating my observed facts and many many threads say the samme they chip to fast with the factory edge cause its burnt on the grinder of many but not all knives.

Some few knives have major problems and gets torn out big chips like you pinky nail size.

Not bashing just saying im not gonna from them.

Saying that the golok shouldnt chip so damn easy either...

A tramontina or something like ot could withstand more thats saying a lot.

Totally agre they are extremely beatiful no doubt.

Again, that's a lot of opinion you have there, having NEVER used one of their knives ,, of course other than the 150 you've allegedly sharpened.

Yes cause you feel also how it is on the stones. You read how the company replies their customers. How the lie and talk complete crap etc my opinion nothing else. Everyone have their opinion simple as that

And never said 150 said about 100-150 work as a proffesional sharpener here in norway so yeah know a good knife and steel when i get it on the stones.

Im true arguing im stating my opinion you have yours.

The fact is the golok should never chipped by so light use if you think otherwise then please do. Fact is any good knife would not have chipped

And i hope you open your eyes and se that the golok in this thread chipped way to easy cause of bad grinding or heat treat/tempering

It's not the chip on the knife that bothers me as much as the one on your shoulder.
It's one thing to ask the question "why did it chip?", but what you did as you do and all the other threads is start spewing a bunch of empty opinions and label it as a fact.

No one is arguing that.
The problem is your attitude and the way you come across.
Calling the owner a liar, claiming they treat their customers poorly, and even so far as to say what they are doing wrong with their heat treat... all without ever using one of their knives or speaking to the owner.

This isn't the first time you've shown this behavior,, what about this post?
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1339521-whats-wrong-with-esee-people

"hello i was in some groups on facebooks about esee knives. and just stated they are a bit overpriced and could use better steel like 1095 crovan or a2 or even cpm 3v,
i got kicked out and blocked by the leader in the group grown up behaviour?
i just stated that for example ka bar uses 1095 crovan wich is better than regular 1095 and theyr knife costs less.
i also said that for the price of a model 3 you can get a master hunter from cold steel in cpm 3v wich is also lots better."

You whined that you got kicked off the ESEE forum,, after you told them their knives were over priced(ESEE's, overpriced!!!!), and you could get a better knife from another company,,,,

Are you seeing a pattern here??

Are you seing im just stating my opinion? Be a grown man and let me have it as i let you have yours brother

Your opinion is slander, to a company who's product you've never used,, so no, I won't let you keep bashing these companies who's reputations are built on years of hard work.
Any other questions?

Lol rofl slander what are you drinking? I love esee never said anything else saying only mine opinion nothing else...
Again the knifes often chip cause their bad quality. Why dont cheaper knifes do the samme.

You are just a fanboy that dont use and live by the knife i actually do... I sharpen knifes everyday nearly for profesionalls chefs to carvers. Everything from yanagibas or takobiki to opinels and esees

I have won several norwegian contests about knife sharpening and profiling etc

But now im done here
