May he rest in peace, may his family share in that peace.

Peace to all. No ill towards anyone.

Noooooooo!

James was the best of us, bar none. The single gentlest, kindest person I've ever known.

Mike, Spark, a suggestion: with Toni's permission, I think his web pages should be permanently mirrored on BF. It'll save Toni the effort of maintaining them. The lore, law and spiritual pages in particular should be preserved forever. Even the commercial pages are keepers, if labeled and with the prices stripped. But the lore/law pages are priceless.

If anyone hasn't seen what I'm talking about, start here: http://home.earthlink.net/~jkmtsm/

One detail: VG, don't worry about the lock you did at first...that was proper until this was confirmed.

My condolences to the Mattis family. James will be missed.

Like a lot of other people, I would make a point of reading and carefully considering everything that James wrote. His great sense of humour, wide range of knowledge, and surprising openmindedness were evident in all of his posts. Plus, he was just an eloquent writer.

I used to look at his web page every couple of days. It had volumes of interesting material to read and some amazing pictures to look at. James' scans were, bar none, the best on the internet: his knife pictures showed real artistry.

The thing I'll remember most about James was his overwhelming kindness, which never faltered. Actually, it was kind of weird; the guy was almost supernaturally nice.

It's hard to say goodbye, but we won't forget you, James.

James always had time to answer my questions, by phone or email. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and making new acquaintances. A man of great integrity, honesty, faith and knowledge.

My prayers are with his family.

God bless,

Michael Cullen

James was the very first guy to reply to my first thread on this site. I have always enjoyed reading his posts. A gentleman and scholar; he is already missed.

So much sad news in such short times it seems. Very sorry for your loss Toni. James' presence will be missed by all in this community.

This is very sad news indeed.

My deepest condolences to the Mattis family.

I was fortunate to laugh a bit with James at Blade West. He was one of the friendliest and "uniquest" characters in all of knifedom and his loss will felt by many.

Only the good die young......

I have met James before and have chatted with him on numerous occasions. He was a very kind and humerous person. He could always make me laugh with his "jibberish talk". I will miss him dearly along with everyone else on this forum. My best wishes to you Toni, and your family.

In my few months of reading BladeForums, James' is a name I've come to be familiar with and regard, even though I never spoke to him. I do sincerely wish his spirit of kindness touches others, wherever he may go.
