In My Opinion, Still the King

IMO, the Delica 4 is still the king of EDC knives. I still can't find a better combo of utility, comfort, and value.

Works like a charm, gets and stays sharp, doesn't scare too many people, is light and thin, ergonomic, and cuts like crazy.

So who else is a Delica lover, and what knives do you think are better EDC choices?

It's a very old design now, but it's amazing how good it still is. There are many competitors, and I would like to know what some of you guys think may be better. I've handled many of the competitors in shops, but I can't seem to find something better than my Delica in an overall package (including function, price, value, etc.).

Anyway, long live the Delica!

All of the Cold Steel Code 4 options are better. And I could name half a dozen others that are as good or better.

I believe "the king" is the BK-9. There are lots of knives as good or better than the Delica. But it depends on your value system and experience with different steels used to make knives.

As a new member who recently got the bug for folding knives after an initial craze for OTFs, I have to say these Spyderco knives are growing on me. At first I thought those big blades with the thumbholes were kinda ugly but I'm coming around. The SC military is going to be my next pocket knife.

I'd pick an Endura over a Delica, mostly because I like the size more. The Pakkawood Delica is a very nice "modern traditional" in my opinion though and I wouldn't turn my nose up at one if I got one gifted. That being said, there aren't too many bad EDC choices in the Spyderco lineup.

The Delica is a fine edc knife but I ve always preferred the Endura as a good combination edc/work knife. I carry the Endura with zdp steel occasionally.
The Para Military 2 and American Lawman also both fit my needs better, for a carry blade used in outdoor labor as well as for edc tasks, than the Delica.

Better at what? Stabbing pig carcasses?

EDIT: Sorry, but Cold Steel is not an option for me personally. I think they make some good knives, but that company seems just a bit out there in terms of their vision and marketing.

I have a couple Spydercos, but I try to stay away from the leaf blades b/c I do not like them. Every time I knock Spydercos I get ganged up on by fan boys, so I don't expect you to do anything different.

If you are talking about the Ka-Bar bk-9, hats off to you if you actually carry that :D

Props to the Endura and PM2, but those are big knives, and so for me are a bit impractical. But both great knives for sure.

Suspected this a troll, even if just a playful one.

Seeing you attack someone for their personal opinion confirms that you mean to create the and control the conversation.

Can't miss the irony that the title of your thread is "In my opinion..." while not allowing others to theirs.

You should list what brands you can and cannot accept before you start a thread like this. Especially with Cold Steel, it is a horse that has been beat to a bloody pulp many, many, many, times over many threads over many years.

Some have learned to judge the maker's product (not just Cold Steel), not the marketing. Some don't hold grudges against the more prickly designers either, but judge the product on its own merits. But with 39 posts... how would you know that?

As much as I like Spyderco, I have to say I'd choose a Mini Grip over a Delica 80% of the time. I much prefer the axis lock to backlocks. For a small EDC knife, the Mini Grip is a beaut. That's just my preference, though. Oh yeah, the warranty is bombproof as well. I am not gentle with my mini Ritter at all.

Robert, sorry to offend your cold steel sensibilities. Many people enjoy their products, and that is fine by me. I am just saying they are not for me personally. I think that kind of marketing hurts knife enthusiasts in the long run because they are promoting their products as death machines and "tactical" weapons with too much zeal. But if that's your cup of tea, go for it. I just don't agree personally.

Also, number of posts in a forum does not equate to knowledge or judgment.

But thanks for your comments.

Thats too big an accuse. Honestly I dont see OP is attacking Tommy.

"The king" is synonymous to the BK9.

Don't care about Cold Steel one way or another. Owned a couple, kept one. They are like all the rest of the mass manufacturers, they make some good and some bad models. They have good runs and bad runs of the same knife.
