In My Opinion, Still the King

Robert, sorry to offend your cold steel sensibilities. Many people enjoy their products, and that is fine by me. I am just saying they are not for me personally. I think that kind of marketing hurts knife enthusiasts in the long run because they are promoting their products as death machines and "tactical" weapons with too much zeal. But if that's your cup of tea, go for it. I just don't agree personally.

Also, number of posts in a forum does not equate to knowledge or judgment.

But thanks for your comments.
Cold Steel has not been noticeably hurt by their marketing . Spyderco makes quite a few models for the same niche with fairly "tactical " names: Police , Military , Paramilitary , Warrior and of course the Civilian which is about as wicked a design as it gets .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I’m hoping the Spyderco chaparral FRN CTS-XHP with full choil, thinner blade stock, and potentially nicer F&F that is in the mail reigns supreme of my small EDC roll.

I don't consider the Delica the epitome of folding EDC knives but I use the Delica as my model size that I prefer for a regular carry folder. The Spyderco Native 5 (back lock), Benchmade Mini Presidio II (manual axis lock), and Steel Will Mini Cutjack (flipper), and ZT 0770 (assisted) are about the same size and I tend to like them better overall. The Steel Will knives are a good value, especially the D2 versions. I like the M390 Mini Cutjack quite a lot.

I agreee that it is an amazing value, plus the quality is up there too. The ratio of price to quality is great. Spyderco overall is an amazing company. They’ve been putting out high volumes of knives for so long, with near custom level knives and entry level knives, and many in between.

At the size, weight, blade length, and price point of the Delica, I can't think of another modern folder I'd rather carry. Open up any of those categories and things change, but it's hard to argue with the combination of value, quality, ergos, and utility that the Delica offers.:)

The Delica is the folder I've carried the longest, although it's since been replaced by other knives that meet my needs and match my tastes better.

IMO, the Delica 4 is still the king of EDC knives. I still can't find a better combo of utility, comfort, and value.

Works like a charm, gets and stays sharp, doesn't scare too many people, is light and thin, ergonomic, and cuts like crazy.

So who else is a Delica lover, and what knives do you think are better EDC choices?

It's a very old design now, but it's amazing how good it still is. There are many competitors, and I would like to know what some of you guys think may be better. I've handled many of the competitors in shops, but I can't seem to find something better than my Delica in an overall package (including function, price, value, etc.).

Anyway, long live the Delica!

Ignoring my fav expensive edcs like my 3.25 inch shamwari, or small sebenza I can think of a knife I like better for edc.

My Kizer Feist. I just love it as an edc knife. It is even smaller in pocket than the delica but still has almost as much blade length.

I think if BenchMade ever decides to be a cool guy and release the Bugout with carbon fibre scales that will be one of the best edcs ever.

Marketing, company politics and (Because I said so!) posting aside. I find myself carrying my Delica more often than in the past. I find the handle comfortable and grippy and the blade a good mix of length and utility. I do not like smooth aluminum scales(code 4) and while I appreciate an infallible lock for hard use(like at my job) for around the house a nice easy to use lockback suits me fine. I think the Spyderco FRN models feel better in hand than the Griptillion models both ergonomically and in tactile feel.

Not for me. Too small and I'm not a fan of FRN.

Same, I only have one knife in FRN and while I really dig the blade (H1 Spyderhawk) the FRN is pretty meh. It makes sense on a "water knife" but still I don't like it as much as other materials. I've actually contemplated getting an Endura and adding some Wise Men scales, but then I think "Well, that's like a 200$ knife" and for that money you can get a really good other knife and not "just an Endura with aftermarket scales".

IMG_0009.JPG I love the Delica but it isn't a great value anymore.
There is a lot of competition in the sub 75 dollar range.

Although discontinued the Cold Steel medium Voyager is a nice alternative to the Delica.

I like the Delica a lot, too, and have many of them, starting with my first, bought 21 years ago. My favorite of all versions is the FFG. I will always think of the Delica as one of the greats.

That said, in that size range, I've become a really big fan of the Para 3, even more so than the Delica. I do realize it's in a different price range, though.
