in praise of the $20 Ka-Bar Dozier Folding Hunter

Aghh....went to order a thumbstud version and New Graham is SOLD OUT of all versions but the skinner!

I ordered mine on ebay from Razorsharpknife ... quick and easy.

Just got it in today.. I have to agree with The Last Confederate.. that snap when it opens is very nice sounding. This is definately a nicely built knife for the money.. granted I don't have any big money knives to compare it to ;) But it's quite nice. Definately worth the money.

That's who I bought mine from!

I'm gonna wait until the holiday is over, then order from somewhere the dro point thumbstud version.

I spent all day again snowbound just flicking away with it.

Ordered a Kabar Dozier folding hunter with the thumbhole from New Graham last Tuesday, Dec. 21. I got a voice mail message from Tom Walker of New Graham to inform me that the thumbhole was out of stock and would not be available until Monday, Dec. 27th and that he was concerned that the knife would not arrive in time for Xmas. I called back and left a message Wednesday that it was for me and that I could wait a week. Tom called me back and informed me that the thumbhole just arrived and he would ship it asap and that it should arrive on Friday, Dec. 24th. I received the knife on Friday. I can't believe the value/quality of this knife. It is all that this thread makes it out to be. I really can't say enough about Tom Walker and New Graham. Excellent customer service and response over a $23.38 knife, $17.43 for the knife, $5.95 for shipping. Thanks Tom!

Well I didn't think I could get more impressed with the Ka-Bar Doziers, but my second one came today the 4062 drop point thumbstud version, and it's even better than the other one!

After about 2 minutes to switch the clip and stud for southpaw use, this one is much easier for me to open than the thumbhole version. I love the blade profile and the ergonomics are awesome....FOR $17.00 BUCKS!

I just got an email from New Graham saying that they expect more of the drop points next week. Sounds like we've run them out of stock.

WOW. This thing is really EVERYTHING its cracked up to be. Its seriously making me reconsider spending more than $50 on a knife, ever.

Aaaaargh . . . zombie thread will not die . . . brains . . . I want your brains . . . :p

You resurrected a 6-1/2 year old thread to praise this knife? Why not start a new one - with pics? ;)

But ya.. the Dozier folders are still a great bargain.

I like that this thread keeps coming back. Hopefully more people will learn what a bargain these knives really are. I add one to an order every time I do business with NewGraham!

And yes, they are much nicer than the BM Pikas. I've owned a Pika and ended up giving it away. It's awfully still and difficult to open compared to the Doziers and the lock doesn't feel nearly as solid. The Dozier has a very pronounced, "SNICK!" when it locks. Nice stuff!!

Wow, people start a new thread and get bished at, I bump an old thread and get chastised.

I was kidding - note the smilies. I happen to like the Kabar/Doziers. And I don't know why you think you'd get harassed for starting a new thread on these.

Sorry I just always see people complaining that people should use the search engines instead of making new threads lol. i guess 2004 is too old to revive?

anyways this thing truly is the deal of the century. forgot the tenacious/skyline/byrds/etc, for a modern folder for $20 you just can't beat this thing. the lockup is super solid, only weighs 2.4 oz, sturdy tip up pocket clip, AUS8 steel is more than acceptable, the Zytel is very well textured for grip, and the finish is good too. I only paid $19 shipped on ebay. if anyone doesn't own one of these, they should. it'll change your whole perspective of value for modern folders.

It is really a bargain. A well heat treated AUS8 blade is not half bad steel and for a non steel snob edc piece, it's as good of a folder as most people will ever need.

Yeah, toss a 150 dollar Benchmade or Spyderco down beside it and the differences in abilities make one think real hard about the price differences! Granted, the higher end knives cost more for a reason (build quality, materials used, design, etc.), but in sheer usability, they're amazing little folders!!

*Disclaimer* This isn't to "diss" the higher end knives, I own a' plenty!

they are too light they have almost gotten kme expelled many times they are so light i forget they are in my pocket when i leave for school.other than that they are perfect edc knives and outdoor knives

Man, this is an old thread...
years ago I read it, then I bought a kabar dozier hunter, now I'm holding it on my hand, and still reading the thread!
yes it's a goo knife for the price, and so cheap that I can mod it without worrying. I grind a choil on one of my dozier, and it works well. BTW, does anybody notice the locking bar is wearing? Not my 2year-old dozier, but also my 1,5 month old one is wearing. It created a little vertical blade play...still good...
