in terms of strength, who wins. choice A, or B?

I have a Fehrman extreme judgement in 3v and while it's awesome it's not superior to my San mai kukri. There dead even.

I think most people will bring the 0100 in CPM 3V as proof, which is kind of unfair because it's not representative of the rest of ZT's fixed blades, and Cold Steel doesn't have anything in nearly an equivalent steel. I hate to say it, but I don't think the ZT 14C28N blades have the same durability as the CS SK5 fixed blades, it's just a mechanic of the steel chosen.

A common pitfall for people like us is to go steel vs steel, when so many factors are at play.

In otherwords.. Which two knives are you comparing? Have you felt a trailmaster in the hand? Blanket statements can always get you in trouble

Cold Steel has a large product range, which includes products within a broad spectrum that ranges from tough to semi-flimsy, and clever to ridiculous.

ZT has a much smaller lineup, which is focused on medium to medium-high end tactical knives. ZT has better materials and workmanship, and much classier marketing.

thanks for understanding everyine. im not trying to troll everyone here. sorry if u get that notion from any of my posts. i honestly, am asking these questions truthfully.
thanks for the input. the reason i started this thread anyways is because i know cold steel makes some reall strong stuff, and ive heard the same from ZT products, but ive never held a ZT so i was asking u people, who have. from what ive read, theyre pretty equal BY THE SOUNDS OF THINGS

well, that should be enough to prompt several dozen more posts

they both sell knives, which is about as equal as they will get. different materials, different designs, different mechanisms, different company policies, lots of differences. differences in strength probably not enough to matter to 99.9% of the population.

hrm...i'm amazed this is still being talked about..

Cold steel is not even CLOSE to the quality of ZT... that's so obvious to anyone who has done any research at all on materials, construction, or fit/finish

CS knives aren't all trash, but their best folders don't come close to Kershaw, and Kershaw is the budget version of ZT...

Cold steel (excluding a few of their VERY high end stuff) is just a joke.

There may be some jokes in this thread, but knives like the Lawman or Recon 1 aren't among them. They are well designed, well executed, hard use blades with killer locks, decent steels, good ergonomics, and useful blade profiles at literally <25% of the cost of the latest ZT to hit the market.

Its fine not to like Cold Steel, and their corny marketing contributes to that. But the broad condemnation of their knives as jokes - which is totally divorced from reality - is just goofy.

So what is it about the Lawman or Recon 1 - just as examples - cause you to characterize them as jokes? Be specific please, if you care to. Ergonomics? Lockup? Price? What?

I'm not asking why you think a knife with sculpted Ti scales and S30V is "better". But why a Lawman is a joke.

Okay, let's consider that

why is the lawman a joke

the lawman is a joke BECAUSE it is made of Aus8 and has a price tag around $60 while a kershaw junkyard dog with similar size, shape and with MUCH better steel costs about $20 less

Cold steel makes themself a joke by selling even their "good" knives at the same price point as overwhelmingly superior offerings.

I don't necessarily think the Lawman is a bad knife, but it should be 30-40% less than it is priced... that makes it laughable

This thread is silly. Asking which is stronger, is tantamount to asking 'Why is a duck'.

People tend to get way too hung up on steel type without looking at real world performance. My primary edc blades are a griptilian, an endura, and the lawman. They each get pretty equal pocket time. I've had to fix nicks in the blade of both the grip and the spyderco, but never the lawman. While it doesn't have quite the edge retention of the other two, it's a much more durable blade.

AUS-8 is actually pretty good stuff when given a proper heat treatment, and Cold Steel is an AUS-8 wizard. :)

this is getting out of hand here. lets all stop posting before a big fight breaks out.
50% of us like CS
50% of us like ZT
and i dont wanna hear that my %s are wrong.
theyre both great. its just that CS has corny-ass marketing
