Inexpensive beater knives

Could go either way, Moose. I've seen cat and dog food that looked and smelled lots better than what they pass off as human food nowadays. The stuff in that pic is some fine Italian sausage I picked up at a butcher shop in Cleveland when Cyn and I went to visit her sister. They have free samples on saturdays. I stayed there for three hours.

LOL, awesome. I was talking to a buddy of mine to day about a place to get cheap food. They got a whole room of canned food that had the labels peeled off. You get 5 cans for $.37, but you don't know whats in them. I got dog and cat food a couple of times, and realized it halfway through the can. :barf: Sorry for the drift, and now back to our regularly scheduled thread on inexpensive beaters, TAKE IT AWAY!!!! Moose

More cheap beaters. If I keep looking, who knows what I will find!

Where'd you find that shorty tram? I'd love one!

I really like my Svord Peasant as a cheap beater with a quality blade (15N20 I think.) Definitely plan to pick up some Moras and Opinels in the future. I like those Tramontina machetes posted earlier in the thread. I picked up some of their kitchen knives on clearance a while back and was very impressed with their quality. They are my go to knives in the kitchen now.

Hoodcanal, I can you tell you the older ones were alot thicker, but from the new ones I have the 10 inch butcher is the thicker at just shy of 1/8 inch. On the 7 and 8 inch butchers I have seen alot of different thicknesses even even the same case of knives.

Here are some more of the ones I own for reference. From left to right, and older Old Hickory skinner, a Modified 10 incher, an 8 inch butcher, a modified 7 incher, and a Green River sheath knife.

skab8541, if you don't mind my asking, where did you get that Old Hickory Green River skinner (second from the bottom in the bottom picture)? I've wanted one of those for a long time. Thanks.

Scored that at the local antique mall last week! I love that knife. Shows the quality that was the norm in those days. It even has a tapered tang.

I would have to say my Mora 2000. It is fast becoming my goto knife for hiking, fishing, and camping. Who would have thought something so inexpensive, and looking the way it does, would be such a versatile and rugged little solder. I love my Mora.!!!!!!!

How can I forget the Filipino Bolos? Got them for about $7-$10 each. Hand forged from 5160. These are cheap in price yet they are priceless !

any Opinel or Mora will do me for a cheapo beater knife of surprisingly high quality.

These were made by Leatherface a few years back. He did my ontario's and Trams, and the old hick's.

My good friend Jeff H made these two for my 18" Trams. They went to Peru and were seen on the TV show we were working on called-Try Before You Die.

Bear certainly gets the prize for number of knives where the sheaths exceed double the cost of the steel they house :D Kydex always makes things look so clean doesn't it?

I don't really have any cheap beater knives....I have a mora and buck diamond back that are stuck in a drawer somewhere....
