INFI Kukri - attainable?

Whatever you did ... it worked  Some serious depth on those chops ... you waltzed through that 4x2 ...

Thanks man, they went nice and deep with no sticking
WOW? That is deep! Have you tried doing that on a mistress?S

No, I had at one point a NMFBMLE and a BWM CF, but now all I have is the zilla
WOW!! 6 chops! Very impressive.

thanks, one of them was a slight miss hit, gonna see how she does with a 4 x 4 next

That was pretty sweet, When the weather cools we'll have a get together and do a little chopathon. I am looking forward to seeing how your beast does against my
KZII and NMFBM.

Yeah man! I'll bring my modded Skizzy and waki as well

Had to share this pic, one hit

mesquite and mulberry are not particularly soft woods. The mesquite in particular because it has very little sap wood:

Nice! I need to scrounge up some real logs, but all I have in the back yard is 4x4s and 2x4s at the moment

I'm not sure if this has been asked, but something I'm curious about with the various Busse Kukris is the angles and shapes of the blades. There seems to be 2-3 different versions of the KZ. I'm curious how they rate against each other in chopping capability?

If looks aren't an issue and you want pure depth and devastation when hacking away...which will do the job the best?

Thanks

AngryDaddyBird...I've toyed around with a bunch of CS stuff. There was a kuk in the special projects that I got a number of years ago in carbon V, it was similar to the magnum kuk they sell today, clocked in around 15 inches in length. That knife would cut like a house on fire...I eventually traded it but I kept the ATC kuk. That blade was almost magical. I used it and then finally traded it as well for another .45 auto. In retrospect, I suspect that All Terrain Chopper was just about the perfect chopper in the kuk configuration. It is a shame that CS does not make it. That thing would cut circles around most knives.

There are only 2 types of khukuries, the Test Team Killa Zilla (TTKZ) and the Killa Zilla 2. The TTKZ is more blade heavy and has a single position handle, where the KZII is faster in the hand, and has a two position handle. However, the 2 positions blend into each other because the handle is fairly straight, which can make it hard to have the thing stay in one place while chopping. It tends to want to slide so your hand is on the pommel, which in it's standard form is highly flared and can cause some wrist/palm pain.

In the links I posted earlier in this page you can see a compairson in picks as well as geometry - the TTKZ having more metal up front from a larger overall footprint as well as a more obtuse convex grind.

The consensus seems to be that a TTKZ that has had its grind thinned out on a grinder is unstoppable when it comes to pure chopping.

I thought I read that there was also a Nuclear Zilla....no?

But ok, sounds like the original version would be preferable for pure destruction.

Thanks

The nuke zilla is a TT zilla with the serrated spine ( made from the same blank). But there are basically three versions, the TT version and the KZ2 and the protos sold at Blade 2011 ( only a handful were made, similar blade shape to the TT but with a slightly different handle)

The initial TT offering which where sold at Blade, were reported to have very thick edges and primary grinds that did'nt allow the blade to bite deep making them poor choppers, of those a few people sent them in ( resin guy and LVC are two I know of) and had work done to them at the shop and a few others did the thinning down themselves. The Zilla 2 ( KZ2) was the result of feedback fom the test team people and was offered at Blade 2010 and then on the Busse site, ( an LE version of the KZ2 ( satin/ black paper) was offer via a Ganza with special pricing for Test team members. At shows ( knob creek , etc) the original TT blanks have been appearing with already thinned down convex grinds (compared to the original release), mine is one of these ( it chopped quite well stock, but I thinned it a bit and now it's just amazing) and the nuke ( serrated) versions to recap

original Test Team version----- Blade 2009 says Test team and a number on it, thicker grinds that need some work, offered in coyote G10 and black paper( maybe others)

Killa zilla 2----- based on TT feedback, different blade shape and handle shape, coated with choice of handle material

killa zilla2 LE----- ganza style 10 day sale, numbered, satin and black paper

Test team blanks from recent shows---- limited numbers, satin, have Busse Combat logo on them, seem to have better ( more effective) grinds that original TT release

test team nuclear killa zilla ----- serrated or partially serrated spines, available in limited numbers at shows, based on test team blanks

Zilla protos----- sold at blade 2011, coated with slightly different handles from the test team versions, similar blade shape, only a handleful made

I forgot about the proto's. At first I would have considered the nuclear version a custom variation of the standard model, but it makes sense to include it because it does come with a thinner grind than the standard TTKZ. If your looking for the best chopper, any custom shop model (including LE's with grind/edge work will be a higher priority than the standard models.

Late night boredom... is it just me or is it unfair for something that takes pleasure in demolishing cars to have this level of sharpness? This is after processing a fair amount of wood during my last fishing trip and a few 2x4s at that. Alas, the car doors have evaded me, and the kayak rental guy probably wouldn't have apprecaited the kayak returning in two pieces :D

Edit: I just realized it might actually be hard to make out what you are seeing in this video, partly due to my cell phone using a torx screwdriver box as a tripod, partly due to it being filmed on a cell phone and mostly due to me being too close to the camera... It is my newly acquired TTKZ :D
