I had a similar experience a few years ago, but without need of extrication. It was night time, very dark. We came upon a just happened accident. My wife, a nurse, tended to the victims, whilst I used my always present Surefire to warn and slow down traffic. All ended well.
The point is, there is not time to "get ready" for an emergency, you simply need to "be ready." And, when it's least expected, you're elected.
Jerry, glad you had the tools you needed on hand at the time of need. Many don't. Good thing YOU were the one "elected" in this case, as you were equipped to handle it.
