Inflated prices

Interesting, I'm not particularly interested in their knives so I don't keep up very well. It sounds like they have reached an enviable place in the market where they have generated enough demand that they can do what essentially amount to "custom" runs. Good for them! Do they require a deposit or something up front? I don't particularly remember them at the Blade Show last year either. Were they there?
...... yes you pay $1US per knife up front when you place your order. And no, they didn't attend Blade this year (or either of the KC shows they use to) in so far as having a table/display, they did go and put on a customer appreciation dinner and associated festivities.

I haven't read all the way through this thread, though I suspect it'll be the same as it always is, from most of the same characters.

My own personal take is this: I don't like being preyed upon. Sure, that's Capitalism. I get it. It's also why there are plenty of knives I don't own, because I refuse to pay scumbag flippers for knives that they vacuumed up in order to take advantage of others. I refuse to allow them the opportunity to exploit my love for a hobby. At the end of the day, it's just a hobby. Furthermore, flippers always show their lack of quality when all of them are all "I take Paypal, friends and family or add 7,000,000%" or the clear "I'm a lazy idiot who's bad at math" shown with their "NET to me" nonsense. I mean, the silver lining here is that at least they're helpful enough to you a "Steer Clear of Scum" sign.

So, thanks for that!

Sounds to me like you have a pretty good grasp on the realities of the situation. You see people selling things at what you consider a bad price with some disreputable conditions so you don't buy from them. In effect you vote with your wallet. Perfect! No kangaroo court threads required.

Hmm interestingly those that wanted to set up the anti-flipper thread have gone quiet. I wonder if there was some behind the scenes communication with the administration and this has now entirely become a historical footnote...

I don't believe they were participating in this thread, and the 2 they were are locked(at least temporarily). This won't be the last time it comes up-be it by them or someone else. It's a volatile subject, with some strong beliefs on how it should or shouldn't be handled.
Spark did make a comment in the Flipper thread

I believe they're locked because this is all complete nonsense.

Limiting people sales just because they bought a few very rare sprint runs?

Like I said, TAKE IT UP WITH SPYDERCO, But Im pretty sure Spyderco LOVES flippers. The amount of desire/scarcity gives them a fanbase that no ads or promotions could ever give.
A lot of people buy Spyderco because they're HARD TO GET!
Want a solution to flippers? DONT BUY FROM THEM, BUT also don't tell me what my price can and cannot be, or to whom I CHOOSE TO SELL TO.

People who hate flippers want one of two things, or both.
1) To Dictate what YOUR price should be.
2) To prevent you from selling to people who are willing to pay a higher price.

Bonus: they also hate to see people win free cars or the lottery because "They didn't work for it:mad:"

But this is all over 40 bucks...
Talk about selfish. :poop:

Heres a thought I want you all to think long and hard about:

If you ban the flippers from blade forums. People are still going to flip, be it here, instagram, facebook, reddit, or the dreaded Ebay..
Ive seen the prices on those sites and they're NOT pretty.
Lets do some math.
People charging AND SELLING $230 Rex45 pm2s on Instagram, $250 St. Nicks Para 3's.
Para 3 cruwear is $299 at bento
Para 3 rex 45 is $214 at bento
Pm2 20cv, $220 on eBay.

all of those sell here for 170-200 tops.. And don't say im "Deal spotting", im telling you all THE DEALS ARE HERE ON BLADEFORUMS.

You think 40 dollars is an outrage? Good luck on eBay after the flippers are gone. You'll wish someone bought a few more to sell on here for a measly 35 dollars more. Without flippers, the market for Spyderco here on BF will crash as no one will want to sell here.

Seriously, Flippers here are a WIN/WIN scenario: You can miss a sprint and not have to worry because you can and WILL find it here for a little extra, and the flippers get a little 30-40 bucks PER knife for spending $300 dollars on just TWO.

Ive been around the interwebs. The flippers here are the lowest charging flippers you'll ever find hands down.

It's funny how these conversation bring out the complete noobs who don't support this forum or make use of the exchange.

All this big talk over 40 bucks and you won't support the site you're on ?!?

Like I said noobs from nowhere running their lips.

Or maybe I just don't feel like outing myself to this circus of a witch hunt.. But whatever you think. I said what I had to say, And if I know Bladeforums like I think I do, They'll keep the site like it is.

This freedom of choice in the site is what makes it great.
Start telling people what they can and cannot do in their own personal sales and it'll back fire. I know this site is run by the mods and bless them for keeping it running smoothly for so long, but there is a mutual benefit between the mods and the users. Many people would be appalled from limiting the sales of others, its just no ones is going to out themselves to be shamed for "supporting flippers" and the flippers reputation to be falsely accused of...wait what exactly are they being accused of..? Oh yeah charging an extra 30-40 bucks for a sprint run that even if they didn't buy to resell on here, Someone else would have bought it to resell on the Bay, Instagram, reddit, facebook, etc.

30-40 dollar increase vs a 100-200 dollar increase. And right here on your favorite site where you hardly have any scammers compared to the latter.
Were so sorry.

o_O

That would be incorrect.

Also, I find it quite ironic that considering your position on this issue that a little over a month ago, you actually reported a member for excessive flipping of Spyderco Sprints and said they needed a dealer membership

I did! A while ago, I wanted to see what would come of it, and nothing did. Infact he sold them to people who actually wanted them.:D:thumbsup:

If he actually had his post taken down, and charged a dealers license I would die of laughter...

Sort of a peripheral issue with the practice of trying to sell an SNK Para 3 in 4V for $270 when they were available for a short time at $156 a week ago is that the practice just flies in the face of common sense. The complete lack of common sense seems to be growing in today's world. Having common sense is a trait that I highly regard, much MUCH more so than having a lot of money.
What is contrary to "common sense" is paying "too much." Selling at a profit is capitalism.

So you reported him why?

Misusing the reporting system is against the rules and will earn you an infraction. So tell us more...

Because according to your witch hunt, I had the right to report any kind of flipping right? So take down his post. go ahead. Do it. Tell him he cant sell for more than 40 bucks over retail.

HAH!:D

My comment had zero to do with any prospective buyer and was limited to the seller's belief, reasonable only in his own mind, that he could sell the knife in question 77% over and above the selling price from St. Nick's Knives and actually see a sale.

Anyway. Read over this real good. Anyone who knows the knife world outside of this site would agree.

Dont tell people what their own stuff is worth.

Im out. Got more stuff to sell to you guys for 30 bucks increase since you didn't buy the sprint yourself. Or maybe all the flippers can take it to instagram etc for 80% increase in price and still sell it ; while you'll only find two-three sprints here after they release for YOUR ACCEPTABLE PRICES...

Peace.:D

Witch hunt, huh? That's a silly exaggeration of calling out the people who hurt our hobby.

What date did you report him on? The flipper thread isn't that old... Did you report him before my flipper thread?
