Good lookin grub there Gunyon. Makes me feel like maybe I should be stocking up on some breakfast supplies...

The stoves are a disease. I'm dealing with it through "saturation therapy." I ordered 4 stoves in the past week.
The omelettes are partly about protein and calories. The last depiction of deliciousness only cost me 338 calories.

There's nothing "confusing" or "disingenuous" about calling it a "high carbon steel", it's a fact.

True in isolation, but I disagree in context.
Every word of text officially released by a large corporation about anything they do is highly tuned to support a very specific marketing message. If the carbon content of stainless steels were generally a marketing factor across the consumer community it would be a non-event, but since it isn't generally discussed as such, they are taking advantage of that vacuum to change perception of a commonplace steel in order to gain market share among customers who are unfamiliar with the field of steel alloys in general. Perhaps I should have said 'subversively manipulative' instead of 'disingenuous'.

But nevermind, I LIKE hearing everything you know. :D

Boought a Missouri Meerschaum corn cob pipe a few days ago, $3.59. Just smoked it for the first time. Smoked excellent. Wanted a backpacking pipe.

That's what I take too Dubz. I did score a Ropp cherrywood the other day for that purpose as well.

Here ya go JT. (And anyone else who might be interested) this is the knife I'm most proud of as of lately. I will have a dedicated thread in my subforum all about the specifics and story behind this knife as soon as I have the time. But in the meantime, here's a few pics:

Beautiful! I've been looking forward to seeing this one complete.

True in isolation, but I disagree in context.

It's true in or out of context. There are lot worse things going on the industry advertising that stating a simple, provable scientific piece of data like that. The fact that most people think "high carbon" is strictly an attribute of low-alloy cutlery steels has a lot more to do with the marketing hype of low-alloy steels than it does with the marketing hype of richer mixes. "Almost nothing but iron" just doesn't have the same appeal....

I'm not "sticking up" for cheap imported knives, by any means... I'd much rather that people buy Beckers and Daizees and Hunts and Terrios :)

It's just the kind of thing that amuses me, that's all. People often throw terms like that around with no real idea of what they're talking about.

But nevermind, I LIKE hearing everything you know. :D

Very kind of you to say so! As always, do your own research, don't just take my word for it. I've been wrong before and it will probably happen again :p

Wow!

Nice knife, Todd. Really like the handle material!

Ah, gotcha. I like that the handle is 4.8" long too. Might fit my hand. If they measured from the point by the ricasso, to the end, probably not.

Had that one in my "watch list" before I decided I had better slow down a little on the knife acquisitions....not expensive and micarta slabs, IIRC. Very sexy. Do you think the handle is long enough for you, Dubz?

There ya go.
I really have to learn to read forward through the thread before hitting the "reply with quote" button. Like I'm doing now, see?

Sorry to geek out on ya like that... don't start me to talkin', I'll tell everything I know. :o

Daizee: Be careful, there; without "subversive manipulation" there'd be no such thing as "marketing". How many tens of thousands of people do you want to put out of jobs? No one wants to live in a world without lies; if you've seen the movie "The Invention of Lying" you know what I mean. Besides, in reality, one needs to participate in being "subversively manipulated" which I don't really see Dubz being open to.

Still, you and JT can keep geeking out all you want, I love learning about this stuff. Maybe one of you can explain the difference in the manufacturing process between Camillus (when they made my BK2) and KaBar and why they look so different when the coatings come off. I've been wanting to know that.

Always wondered what the coating was on a corn cob pipe. Now, I know:

I have no inside information on either factory. I have my suspicions, which I think are pretty close to the mark, but it wouldn't be fair for me to speculate.
